BU's breeze by Blackburn

A view from the terraces kindly submitted by BRYAN COPELAND!

With all other games in the EOS Premier League falling victim to the weather the only surviving match is this one today.
The visitors have only lost 1 League game since Max Christie took charge and it was against today’s opponents 7 weeks ago as they left delighted with a 1-0 win. Since then however Blackburn haven’t kicked on and have lost every game since leaving them 2nd bottom of the league table.
The BU sit top 10 points clear with a victory today extending that lead to 13 points with no other teams playing. A positive vibe is around for the BU this week with good news on contract extensions for 3 players Midfielder Craig Comrie, Goalkeeper Andy Murphy and Captain Chris Donnelly. I would put a position in for Captain Dougie but he’s so versatile I think he’s played almost every position in his time at the BU and I must add played them very well.
There’s a new signing to report this week as we welcome back Kieran Anderson to the club. Kieran was a good player for us before and enjoyed good spells scoring plenty goals for Broxburn and Camelon before getting a chance to go up the divisions a little and play for Stenhousemuir. He will be well know to our gaffer Max Christie from their time together at Broxburn and hopefully he can kick in and discover the goal scoring he has in the past to help the BU going forward.

With a night of heavy rain and a high wind still blowing today’s conditions could x e very tricky for football but one things for sure the weather won’t put off the large travelling support that’s always with the BU.

Into the game then and the home side got us underway as the very strong winds of earlier seemed to have died down a little making it easier comforting to play in with a light drizzle still falling. The opening 10 minutes saw both teams share an equal possession of the ball but little action in goal. A free kick from the home side saw a routine catch from Murphy as the ball came in the box. And at the other end a good gross was caught by the Blackburn keeper even although he went over the line and it should have been a corner the linesman not up with play gave a goal kick. A minute later and it was a corner for the Bu that was well defended for another. In came a great ball and Hunter got on the end of it only to see his header crash off the bar. A free kick for the visitors saw a chance to get the ball into the box but it was wasted as it was quickly taken and right to the waiting home keeper. A cross ball from the visitors had the home keeper worried before he went down and had to receive treatment before the game was restarted. A brilliant ball played forward from Ritchie almost gave a chance to cross but the ball was cleared for a throw. A though ball from Ritchie saw the hole keeper quick off his line to smother it at the edge of his box before Comrie was foiled while defending a counter attack. As the ball came forward on the half hour mark a throw in from the home side was won by Morgan as the ball came in, it was laid off to Comrie who struck the ball low from outside the box and into the net past the home keeper. Blackburn 0 - 1 BU. Another through ball saw the home keeper quick off his line and he done really well to clear with Ritchie advancing. The ball went to the half way line where Comrie picked it up and his ball forward was dealt with by the Blackburn defence. A few minutes later Morgan had a chance and was unlucky to see his effort blocked.
Morgan again had his head in his hands as he was clean through and didn’t even work the keeper as he steered it wide of the post. 3 minutes to half time and thx visitors doubled their lead a ball across the box, Morgan got a flick on it towards Hunter who sent the ball into the net via the Blackburn No.5 a potential own goal but Hunter got the credit from his team mates. Blackburn 0 - 2 BU. With nothing more to report the 1st half was brought to a close by the referee Blackburn 0 - 2 BU.

Into the 2nd half and Morgan had a for from distance as he fizzed a shot just wide from outside the box over on the right. Jacobs then down well winning a wayward clearance from the home keeper and as the ball was played into Morgan it looked like a foul but the referee waved played on. Jacobs then played a great ball across the pitch to Campbell who sent a lob pass right into the oath of Ritchie just inside the box, as the ball bounced Ritchie hit it perfectly and it looked like it was destined for the net over the keeper but he made a great save to sent the ball out for a corner. As the helm side then came forward Nimmo won the ball well but the referee judged it to be a foul, Nimmo reacted and saw a yellow card which I initially thought was for the reaction but I was corrected by the man himself who tells me it was for the foul. Much as it as a shocking decision and he had every right to complain perhaps it shored have been left to the crowd to do it for him. The 3rd goal for the visitors shortly followed 14 minutes into the half Comrie played a perfect ball to Stevenson who done really well to finish past the keeper. Blackburn 0 - 3 BU. BU Gaffer Max Christie made a change as Jacobs was replaced by new signing Kieran Anderson in his 2nd spell at the BU. The score the went to Blackburn 0 - 4 BU as Ritchie got on the scoresheet with a composed finish. A few minutes later both sides made a change Ian Nimmo was replaced by Chris Donnelly for the BU. The visitors were looking comfortable as another couple of good ball came over the home sides box. A great ball sent forward by Campbell was defended for a corner and as the ball broke to the edge of the box Morgan had a shot blocked by the home defence. 14 minutes to go and the final change was made as 1 of several man of the match contenders Brian Ritchie was replaced by Mark McKenzie. A really quick move from back to front saw Anderson through on the girl keeper and his low shot was well hit and equally well saved. Minutes later an Anderson was almost in again just about to get a shot away as the home keeper clutches the ball from his boots. A minute to go and the home side had a chance of a consolation goal a good ball forward bounced at the edge of the box but the 1st time shot went high over the bar. Another chance almost came for the home side as the game went into added time. Overall a good performance from the visitors and several contenders today for a man of the match vote with everyone doing their bit to help in a brilliant win.

Full time Blackburn 0 - 4 BU.

No game for the BU next week so next up is a fortnights time at home to Whitehill Welfare.
