BU's up to fourth

Match report kindly submitted by BRYAN COPELAND.

Back to league business today with another tough match in store as we remain unbeaten so far this season. Having only managed to accumulate 3 league points this season some would be forgiven to think that this game isn’t as hard as it may seem but in their transition year last season Jeanfield done very well and so far this season they have had good recent results and have scored several goals. After starting out with 2 draws in league game the BU got their 1st win also in the league. This has since been followed by 2 cup wins with the latest one allowing BU manager Max Christie to rotate his squad and give players an opportunity to play. The manager will also know what to expect today having reported in the local press he has seen Jeanfield recently this season on their trip to fellow league rivals Hill of Beath Hawthorn and most of the squad will know Jeanfield very well not just from last season but from the junior days as well when the clubs faced each other.
I’m sure the large travelling BU support will be expecting goals today as so far we have been treated to a total of 18 in all competitions over 5 games which consist of 3 in the league and 2 in the cup.
With another cup tie to come next week before we visit Prestonfield for the local derby in a fortnight I’m sure everyone would like to keep the unbeaten run going and the confidence well up.

Into today’s game then and as always the large travelling support was there to help the team. It’s was a fairly even start with none of the 2 sides troubling the keepers. The only things of not were a good ball across the home box and a good clearance just inside the box from Gemmell. The 1st goal then almost came in bizarre fashion as Nimmo hooked a ball back to Murphy in the BU goal without looking, leaving Murphy scrambling to clear with his feet which he done very well in the end. On 25 minutes a great ball across the home box saw Campbell rise up to head into the net but the linesman had already raised his flag and the referee blew for a foul. As the visitors came forward Morgan was clearly fouled twice before the referee finally gave a foul and in frustration Morgan saw a yellow card. Minutes later Grant saw a yellow for a synacle foul just before the half way line. The home side swung a ball over the box but it was easily cleared as the score remained 0-0. 8 minutes of the half remains and a superb ball into the home box found MacKenzie rising to head it goal wards forcing a good save from the Swifts keeper. The break through came with only minutes of the 1st half remaining as Grant played a good ball low across the box, it deflected and came to Morgan at the back post who only had to tap the ball into the waiting net. Jeanfield Swifts 0 - 1 BU. The home side tried to respond and won a corner that came to nothing and a quick counter for the visitors was on. Unfortunately the move ended with a pass back to the home keeper rather than a shot from Grant. Forwards again came the home side and huge appeals for hand ball went up just in the edge of the box. Waiting to see if the referee would point to the spot or not finally he decided free kick right on the edge of the box. It was taken direct and Murphy in the BU goal tipped the all over the bar making a decent save.
With nothing else the half ended Jeanfield Swifts 0 - 1 BU.

Into the 2nd half and it was fair even possession wise for the opening spell with nothing for any of the 2 keepers to do. The visitors then had a chance to extend their lead as Morgan done well and won a corner that was then headed almost off the line. The home side tried to counter quickly but it was stopped very well with a superbly timed tackle for Gemmil. Then the chance of the half so far came as McKenzie done really well and played the ball through, when it looked like a certain goal Keast spurned the opportunity putting the ball wide of the post. With 16 minutes remaining BU Gaffer Max Christie made a change as Keast was replaced by Donnelly. As the home side got forward a free kick was swung into the box but the resulting header caused no trouble for Murphy in the BU goal as the ball went wide. Another corner was swung in and went close for the visitors as the ball hit the top of the net just over the bar. As added time approached anytime the visitors had the ball they done their best to keep it but when the home side had it they looked dangerous with an effort not far away from Murphy’s goal.
With nothing more to add and well into added time the match ended
Jeanfield Swifts 0 - 1 BU.
