Bo’ness United finally got the win they craved though it was achieved in the most unlikely circumstances. With only ten senior players available there were five players from the U20 drafted in, Taylor Penman starting and Hamza Nimaga coming on to influence the final result.

The game was an open affair and after an early Bo’ness shout for a penalty was turned down, the BUs did get ahead when Jordan Armstrong headed a Tom Grant corner back across the goal and Mark McLuckie was in place to head his first goal for the club. Cumbernauld hit back soon after, Thomas Horn firing in from close in but only a minute later Bo’ness regained the lead, Lewis Hodgkiss getting onto the end of a Jamie Watson cross to head the ball in just under the bar.

The second half proved as enterprising, Cumbernauld looking to get back into the game creating a number of chances while there were openings at the other end. With just over ten minutes remaining Bo’ness extended their lead as Hamza Nimaga ran onto a great through pass before continuing forward and shooting low across keeper Harry Broun, the ball finding the net just inside the far post. This was the first competitive goal scored by an U 20 side player for the senior team. Cumbernauld responded after the referee awarded a penalty converted by Aiden McLaughlin and only a great block by BU keeper Allan Fleming kept Bo’ness ahead. Cumbernauld were unable to get back for a third time and the BUs were able to celebrate a win that can help keep them in the top half of the table.
