After an impressive run of results February has not got off to a good start, the League Cup defeat against Tranent followed by a loss at home to Caledonian Braves. Things might have been different in the opening minutes as Braves keeper Bernard White punched away a Dan Irving shot, Lewis Hodgkiss following up to head over. This preceded two decent penalty claims, both turned down by the referee and ironically a penalty award at the other end saw Caley take the lead. The referee adjudged Alasdair Davidson’s tackle on former BU Lennon Walker a foul and Cameron Breadner stepped up to convert from the spot. Ten minutes later things got worse for Bo’ness when Gravine Kalala cut inside to fire a low deflected shot past Allan Fleming in the BU goal.
Three minutes before half time Bo’ness pulled one back, Kieran Mitchell's pass sending Shaun Brown to the by line and his cross was headed in by Lewis Hodgkiss, his first for the BUs. A great time to score but only a minute later Lennon Walker pounced onto a short pass back to slot in, Bo’ness once again facing a two goal deficit.
A change of personnel and formation after the break saw Bo’ness set about retrieving the situation but as in the first period Caledonian Braves pressed all over the pitch, the Bo’ness players seldom given room to create too many chances. Bo’ness worked to get back though struggled to make an impression and it was only two minutes into time added on they did pull one back, Lucas Fyfe turning to shoot low just inside the near post. Another first but it proved too little too late and Bo’ness need to regroup to get back to the form shown at the turn of the year.
