There was little Christmas cheer around Newtown Park as Bo’ness United lost a third game in succession and have now dropped to eighth place in the Lowland League table. It was a case of could have and should have as Bo’ness dominated the first half, peppering the Berwick goal without making the breakthrough that might have brought the reward their play warranted. As it was just before the break Berwick showed how it’s done, a Ben McCrystal cross finding Taylor Hendry to head home at the back post.

Berwick looked more dangerous after the turnaround and after a couple of close shaves the BUs conceded a second when Ben McCrystal headed home at the near post from an Alexander Harris corner. Bo’ness worked to get back into the game and with just under fifteen minutes remaining got a goal as a Ryan Stevenson corner broke for Kyle Johnston to fire in, giving the hope of a comeback. The BUs set about achieving that but in the final minutes Berwick sealed their win, Bo’ness unable to clear their lines with Greig Binnie getting through on goal to slip past BU debutant keeper Allan Fleming.

Another disappointing day for Bo’ness United who cannot be faulted for effort but need to find a way to turn their good outfield play into the goals needed to win matches.
