Undefeated at Central Park, Bo’ness United lost out to the Blue Brazil for the first time there despite enjoying the lion’s share of possession throughout the game. The only goal of the game came five minutes before the break, Cowdenbeath’s man of the match Max Wlliamson doing the damage. Up to that point Bo’ness had look the better side, Tom Grant bringing out a great save from keeper Owen Hayward and a Roan Fitzpatrick effort that just cleared the bar.

In the second half Bo’ness set about getting back into the game but the Cowdenbeath defence was solid and the BUs struggled to make the breakthrough. A Kieran Mitchell ball across the face of the goal longed for a final touch and Mitchell also had a shot saved by the Cowdenbeath keeper. There were also a few scrimmages in the Cowdenbeath goal area but the ball just wouldn’t fall right for the BUs to finish. Into time added on Max Williamson missed a glorious chance to seal the win for the Blue Brazil though the final whistle soon after rendered the spurned opportunity irrelevant.

It proved a disappointing night in Fife and although the overall display from Bo’ness perhaps deserved some reward, work is needed to improve in the final third of the park. The BUs now look forward to Friday’s contest against East Stirlingshire at Stenhousemuir.
