Match Preview 2024 2025
Broomhill
Park’s Motor Group Lowland League
Dumbarton Football Stadium
Tuesday 18 March 2025
Only ten days after losing at home to Broomhill, Bo’ness United have the chance to redeem themselves as the sides meet again. Bo’ness have already made the trip to Broomhill twice this season but on both occasions with the BU players and officials already at the venue, the match was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. Their reward is a Tuesday evening trip to the Dumbarton Football Stadium.
The Newtown Park defeat against Broomhill was disappointing both for the result and performance. Callum McKenzie quickly cancelled out an early Lucas Stenhouse penalty strike, the same player putting the visitors ahead from the spot before half time. Late on Keir Foster equalised for Bo’ness but before the end another Callum McKenzie penalty conversion consigned Bo’ness to a depressing defeat (Report).
Since that game Broomhill have had two draws at home to Hearts B and Bewick Rangers enough to lift them from the bottom of the table. Meanwhile Bo’ness have progressed to the final of the Lowland League cup after the penalty kick decider against Tranent and had the unusual experience of a Saturday night fixture with their no score draw at Albion Rovers. The point was gained mainly thanks to a good defensive display with all the players putting in a determined shift on the night (Report).
Bo’ness visited Broomhill at the tail end of last season, the sides sharing the points. On a blustery Tuesday night Corey O’Donnell headed Broomhill into a first half lead, Tom Grant equalising for Bo’ness with just over fifteen minutes remaining. (Report).
Broomhill are happy to be off the bottom but know they have work to do with only five points separating the bottom four teams. They will be looking to do the double on Bo’ness, though having dropped a place in the table, the BUs want to stabilise to get a first league win in five starts. With this in mind plus the fact Bo’ness have a point to prove, the players will surely be up for this one and hopefully many of the BU Faithful can make the sizeable journey to Dumbarton on Tuesday night.

Broomhill 3

Bo’ness United once again were unable to get the better of a team sitting bottom of the league table, this time Broomhill leaving Newtown Park with all the points. The BUs put in one of their worst performances of the season even to the point of conceding a last minute goal after getting back into the game with a late equaliser.
Bo’ness started well and went ahead from the spot, Lucas Stenhouse converting following Kieran Mitchell being brought down in the box. Unfortunately, the BUs were unable to hold on to the lead two minutes later with Callum McKenzie taking advantage of a defensive lapse to fire past Liam Campbell. Fifteen minutes before the break Bo’ness were behind as the referee consulted with his assistant to turn a free kick at the edge of the box into a penalty kick dispatched by Callum McKenzie.
Twenty minutes into a scrappy second half the Bo’ness task was to become even harder as Tom Grant was sent off for a tackle in the middle of the park and as time moved on the BUs struggled to make an impact. However, with six minutes left on the clock Keir Foster finished off a good move to get the BUs back into the game. Bo’ness then set about getting a winner but disaster struck as a clumsy challenge in the box gave Broomhill another penalty and Callum McKenzie scored his third of the day to give his side a significant win.
Bo’ness now face Tranent in Tuesday’s League Cup semi final and only a greatly improved performance will see the BUs with a chance to progress to the final of the tournament.

BO’NESS UNITED MATCH SUMMARY SEASON 2024/2025
Date – Saturday 15 March 2025
Competition – Park’s Motor Group Lowland League
Albion Rovers 0
Bo’ness United 0
Bo’ness United gained a hard earned draw at Albion Rovers, the point won largely due to an impressive defensive display that kept the Rovers at bay. Throughout the game the BUs struggled to keep the ball but whether a tackle, a block or an interception, they got their bodies in the way to prevent Albion Rovers scoring.
Alexander McCaw saw a shot go over the Bo’ness bar while keeper Liam Campbell saved from Max Ross, and at the other end Ryan Schiavone had a header from a Lucas Stenhouse free kick cross deflected for a corner. The home side were enjoying the lion’s share of the possession during the first half and this continued into the second half with Bo’ness playing on the break.
A careless pass back might have cost Albion Rovers dear and although Ryan Schiavone intercepted the defender was able to usher the ball to safety. Bo’ness came close to scoring late on with a deflected Lucas Stenhouse shot looking to creep in at the post but the ball was cleared off the line. Into time added on and Peter Mendy wriggled through on goal and only a great tackle from Lewis Duffy stopped the Rovers substitute pulling the trigger.
A mixed night for Bo’ness in that they created little with the ball but were defensively sound and every player applied themselves to win a point on the road. However, the BUs have dropped a place in the table and now face two tough away matches in the coming week at Broomhill and Civil Service Strollers.

BO’NESS UNITED MATCH SUMMARY SEASON 2023/2024

Bo’ness United had to settle for a draw at Broomhill, a result that sees the BUs needing a win in their final game at home to University of Stirling to guarantee a third place in this season’s Lowland League. On a windswept Dumbarton pitch Bo’ness blew hot and cold although in the end a share of the points was probably the fairest outcome.
Struggling to adapt to the conditions, Bo’ness were unable to put much football together. They did create a number of chances as did their opponents and it was Broomhill who got themselves ahead just short of the half hour mark. Paul Kennedy shrugged off any challenge wide on the right before sending over a cross for Corey O’Donnell to head home at the far post. Josh Jack came close to getting a second with a shot that was just wide of the target. Just before the break a Ryan Porteous header scraped the Broomhill post while a Keir Macaulay free kick just cleared the bar.
Into the second half Bo’ness started well enough but Keir Macaulay had to make two goal line clearances in quick succession to prevent a second Broomhill goal. Ten minutes in Bo’ness had a great chance to equalise after Ryan Porteous was fouled in the box but he was unable to convert the resulting spot kick as Broomhill keeper Luke Scullion made the save. This miss seemed to affect Bo’ness who struggled once more but gradually they were back into things, most of the play in the Broomhill half. A couple of good opportunities were spurned but with just over fifteen minutes remaining Bo’ness got the equaliser as Scullion blocked a Tom Grant shot but the same player followed up to bang the ball into the net.
Bo’ness went to look for the winner as Broomhill seemed happy to settle for the draw, surprising given they looked dangerous any time they broke forward. As it was there was no more scoring and Bo’ness look forward to an exciting finale to the season, hoping to finish the campaign on a high.
