Bo’ness United completed their season at East Kilbride, going down to the Lowland League Champions to finish in twelfth position on the table. There’s no doubt the best team won on the day but credit to the BU players who kept going to the end, creating enough chances to have made things more difficult for their opponents.

The first third of the match saw East Kilbride surge forward, Bo’ness having to defend in depth to keep the goal intact. Bo’ness then enjoyed a good spell of their own getting forward and it was ironic that this was when Kilby took the lead, John Robertson poking home from a corner on the left. Right away Bo’ness were unlucky not to respond when Louis Kennedy spotted the East Kilbride keeper off his line but his audacious lob sailed over Chris Truesdale’s head only to hit the bar, denying the BUs an equaliser.

The second half saw East Kilbride once again looking strong with John Robertson roaming the pitch, making it difficult for Bo’ness to pin him down. As it turned out it was Robertson who got his and East Kilbride’s second, receiving a pass across the edge of the box and with space to spare slotted past BU keeper Liam Campbell. The hat trick came with twenty minutes remaining, Robertson this time firing a low shot from twenty five yards, the ball going in just inside the post. Bo’ness were not for giving up and were rewarded for their efforts as Kieran Mitchell took the ball to the line, his cutback finding Dan Irving who side footed past Truesdale.

In the end it was another BU defeat although there was effort from all who took part, some knowing this was to be their final game in the blue of Bo’ness United.
