Competition –Friendly
Bo'ness United 1
(Kennedy 84)
Clydebank 4
(Collins 26, McGonigle 48, Little 56 pen, McLernan 67)
This fixture against Clydebank was always going to be a real challenge and it proved to be so as Bo’ness United were well beaten by the West of Scotland Premier League side.
The BUs competed well in the first half, enjoying much of the possession although they seldom threatened where it counted. The best effort was a Ryan Porteous header from a Shaun Rutherford cross that was only inches wide of the target. At the other end Liam Campbell had to look lively, getting down to block an effort but just short of half an hour was beaten as Thomas Collins lobbed the new keeper into the net.
After the turnaround the BUs lost a second when a sick Clydebank move finished with Liam McGonigle firing home from close in. The visitors then extended their lead, Nicholas Little scoring from the spot. Clydebank sealed their win with another good move that saw Ben McLernan with the easiest task of knocking the ball home close to the line. With five minutes remaining Bo’ness scored a consolation through Louis Kennedy.
The preseason games are about game time for players and the management team developing the squad for the new season. No doubt manager Stuart Hunter will have learned much from this game, already making plans to ensure improvement for the opening of the campaign.
