After a tense afternoon in Sauchie last week being 2 goals up and forced to extra time and penalties the BU finally got to the next round of the cup where a home tie against Musselburgh awaits. Before that however it’s back to league duty as Edinburgh Uni are welcomed to Newtown Park. It’s fair to say results have been up and down for the home side in the league this campaign so a home win is what I’m sure the Management and players have worked for and what the usual large crowd wants to see.

The 2 sides met at East Peffermill earlier on in the season and a memorable goal from Tom Grant helped with a midweek win.
Also a mention for Black Diamond FMs Derek Hall as I’m pretty sure it was at this reverse fixture we had a half time chat, he the proceeded to do a far better report than me on the game haha a notable difference between Pro & Amateur I think.

Anyways the Uni side I’m sure will come well prepared and the home side will need to be at it from the start if they’re to get control of the match.

Off we go then and the home side got us underway attacking the goal towards Kinneil School against the strong wind with the visitors shooting towards the Fisons end. The opening 20 minutes of the match gave nothing to report on other than Galbraith earning a free kick that was swung in to the back post and as it lingered in the air it was almost a chance for a shot on goal however the costing keeper clutched the ball routinely. With still nothing to really report on the visitors had a free kick from distance on 37 minutes and with the wind behind decided to have a shot which seen the ball head high over the crossbar. A corner for the home side which the visitors were alert to defend at least gives me something to wright as the 1st half draws to a close. The visitors played the ball out wide and with some good play turned inside bringing the ball into the box and opening up a shooting chance which seen the ball go high over the bar.

Into the 2nd half and a couple of early balls into the box with home side having the wind at their back gave the visitors something to defend which they did well. A substitution for the BU saw McLeod replaced by Johnston. A stoppage in play while a visiting player received treatment 30 mins into the half was the only other thing of note so far and I can only apologise for a very short match report on todays game. 12 minutes to go and a 2nd change from BU gaffer Max Christie saw Captain Gemmel replaced by Flynn. Just on that park Flynn broke into the box and was brought down bringing appeals from on the pitch and from the sidelines and crowd for a penalty all waved away from the referee and on a quick counter the visitors almost took the lead with a shot going just past the post. A shot from distance was deflected for a corner which the home side totally wasted sending the ball straight out of play for a goal kick. A 3rd change for the home side with a couple of minutes to go saw Hawkins replaced by Nichol as what I can only say has been a dreadful game started drawing to a close. A through ball sent Wilson on his way into the box but as he prepared to shoot the ball was cleared by the visiting defence. An added time corner found Stevenson on the edge of the box bud touch then shot was saved by the Uni keeper as the home side looked for a late winner. Another corner followed this time sent to the back post and Skinner headed over the bar for a goal kick.
