Lowland League Match Day 26

Stirling University v Bo’ness United

Sat 15/01/22. KO 15:00

Forthbank Stadium, Stirling.

A good start to year last week for the BU with a decent performance and a win as we finally played our first game of 2022. Max and the team will be looking to build on the success and performance of last week as we face a Stirling Uni side who have played us and won twice before. As always the large travelling support will be out in numbers to help spur the team on.

Transfer news ahead of todays game Kieran Anderson had left the club to join Camelon and of course we wish him all the best.

Into the game then and the home side got us underway. Straight from the kick off the trialist in the BU goal replacing  Andy Murphy had to get down to his right to make a stop. Straight to the other end and Galbraith had a through ball fed to him he took a touch and shot towards goal but the home keeper was equal to it. Uni played a ball up the right and a cross into the six yard box  which was cleverly flicked towards goal but it was too high and landed on the roof of the net. The visitors had also started well and again they came close with a shot going narrowly wide in what was a really good start to a football match. Devon Jacobs made a magnificent tackle on half way to stop the home side breaking forward quickly. On 12 minutes a free kick out wide gave Uni a chance to send a ball into the box, the delivery was good however the header from inside four yards was high over the bar. Just a minute later however and the opening goal came as the home side placed the ball low into the net. Stirling Uni 1 - 0 BU. Stevenson did well dribbling the ball out from the back before playing inside to Galbraith, he fed Wilson who played a brilliant diagonal ball and the cross in was headed with power towards goal, with the Uni keeper beaten the home side were saved as the ball came crashing back off the cross bar. Skinner did well to intercept a ball headed for the box and he tried to play a quick counter with a long ball forward toward Wilson who unfortunately was in an offside position. The home side came close to doubling their lead and possibly should have a shot went over the bar from around 7 yards. It had been a good start from both sides but the visitors had now started to play long hopeful balls upfield which were being easily cut out by the home side. 7 minutes to half time and the scores were level as Ryan Stevenson ran onto a low through ball and very calmly slotted it under the advancing keeper. Stirling Uni 1 - 1 BU. Right on half time and a free kick wide left gave the home side a chance to send a ball into the box, it was curled towards the back post but went out of play for a goal kick. At the other end Wilson had an effort just over the bar and the was to be the last kick of the first half.

Half time Stirling Uni 1 - 1 Bo’ness United.

Into the second half and after the visitors got us back underway it was a fairly quiet opening 15 minutes with the only thing of note a corner to Bo’ness which was well delivered into the 6 yard box. Wilson almost latched on to a through ball but the home keeper just got to it before him and cleared. Stevenson picked the ball up and was brought down in the centre circle giving the visitors a free kick. A long ball forward found Wilson who took it out wide but when he looked up to cross no one was there so he held it up before playing a short pass and when the ball did eventually head for the box it was a poor delivery and easily headed away.  The home keeper got lucky as he ran out of his box with the ball in his hands before kicking it but luckily for him the linesman seemed to totally miss it somehow. 15 minutes to go and a ball played inside from the right had the home side breaking forward however the shot from the edge of the box looped high over the bar. The home side had another shot high over the bar. A corner for the home side was confidently punched clear by the visiting  keeper. BU gaffer Max Christie made a change as Hawkins replaced Macaulay with 5 minutes to go the BU keeper was rushing off his line to clear from around the penalty spot. At the other end Stevenson sent a low cross into the box that was cleared as both sides looked to find a late winner. Couple of minutes to go and Grant did well on the right before his pass was intercepted and when the visitors won the ball back and switched the play Stevenson was pulled back just over half way a he tried to break forward. A free kick on the edge of the box was hit towards the BU goal and once again the keeper was equal to it as he saw the ball late but got down quickly and gathered the ball. As the game entered added time a good ball from the left was sent towards the back post but unfortunately for the BU the resulting header went towards the home keeper.

Full time Stirling Uni 1 - 1 Bo’ness United.
