Two wins in the Scottish cup replay at home were the first competitive wins of the season for Bo’ness and we followed that up with a first league win at home with an impressive display against Civil Service Strollers. This will set the confidence high for tonight’s game and with the home support turning out in numbers whether it’s at the weekend or at night once again there’s sure to be plenty encouragement coming from the terraces.
There’s still injuries and suspensions to content with for Gaffer Max Christie, however a similar performance to recently and the home side will feel they can take something from the game while hoping for all three points.
Tonight’s opponents Broomhill were formerly known as BSC Glasgow and I’m sure they will come to Bo’ness well prepared after both these sides have had some close encounters in the past one, of the games finishing 4-4 so who knows if we will be in for a goal fest tonight again or not.

Into the game and the visitors attacking the goal towards Fisons looked dangerous with a ball down the right which led to a good cross fizzed over the 6 yard box. At the other end good football from midfield up to the edge of the box almost carved out a shooting chance but the space just wouldn’t open up. A quick ball down the right was flicked on into the box only for Wilson to be flagged offside as the visiting keeper rushed off his line to grab the ball. Another ball curled down the right by the visitors saw Comrie outpaced and the visitors looking dangerous as the cut inside to the box, the cross however was poor and came to nothing. Murphy sent the ball out quickly and as it was passed well across the midfield it then went toward to Anderson who cleverly flicked it on into the path of Wilson with his shot stinging the gloves of the Broomhill keeper as the game approached the 15 minute mark. Jacobs worked the keeper with a good half volley on the edge of the box then at the other end the home defence looking rather shaky at times so far without Stuart Hunter were split wide open and through 1 on 1 with the keeper thankfully Murphy done enough and the ball caught the outside of the post. 32 minutes and a free kick from the left was sent into the home box and although it was initially cleared well the return ball was excellent and Murphy done really well to push the ball onto the post then it rolled all the way across the goal line a heart in mouth moment for the home side. Straight to the other end and we had the opening goal on 35 minutes. Appeals for a penalty were turned down as the referee awarded a free kick right on the edge of the box. Anderson curled a beautiful shot round the defensive wall and into the back of the net leaving the keeper absolutely helpless. BU 1 - 0 Broomhill. As half time approached Gemmell almost broke through but just couldn’t get a break of the ball to shoot but as it went out wide Macauley sent it back over, it was cleared as far as McCormack who delivered a great ball towards the back post and as it fell to Comrie he laid it off with the deftest off touches for Wilson who unfortunately scuffed his shot making it an easy stop for the keeper. Half time Bo’ness United 1 - 0 Broomhill.

Into the second half and the home side started well as a shot went not far over the crossbar. A home substitution saw Michael Gemmell replaced by Johnstone as youth came on for experience. Murphy had very little to do so far but he was there when called on to collect through balls and crosses and also to pick the ball out the net as the visitors scored only for it to be flagged off by the linesman on the far side. At the other end Anderson came close with a shot deflected for a corner after some good build up play down the left hand side. The visitors were trying to push forward as the game went into the latter stages but it seemed the best they could do was a shot from distance high and wide over the bar. Moments later Murphy was rushing off his line and out side his area to boot the ball clear as it was almost fed through nicely and as the home side broke forward the referee pulled the play back for a free kick after a foul when advantage may have been the better option. A long ball up the left by Broomhill then let them cross and it was a good ball fizzed in right across the 6 yard box thankfully for the home side there was no one looking for a tap in. The visitors had a fair bit of second half possession but hadn’t posed too much of a threat, that was until the final action of the game when a brilliant cross was met at the back post and powered towards the net, Murphy however made an exceptional save to keep the ball out and that was to be the last action of the game.

Full time Bo’ness United 1 - 0 Broomhill.
