United come unstuck against the students.

Bo'ness United's unbeaten run ended at the hands of Stirling University after a disappointing night at Forthbank Stadium. Three first half goals earned victory for the energetic and skilful home team and despite a far better second half performance, United just couldn't find the net to set up a grandstand finish.

Following on from Saturday's Challenge Cup win over Burntisland Max Christie made three changes to his side with Andy Murphy restored in goals, Ross Campbell back in the defence and a welcome return to action after injury for Nicky Locke.

The home started well and had efforts from Jarvis and McGale come close before they opened the scoring in the 13th minute. Stirling's top scorer Penker knocked home a Jarvis cross/shot which took a nick off a BU defender. The assistants flag was up but after a quick chat between the officials the goal was awarded. The lead only lasted for two minutes however when Kieran Anderson curled a nice free kick onto the top corner from the edge of the penalty area. Stirling's heads did not go down though and within 90 second of the equaliser they were ahead once more through Jarvis, who's shot from the edge of the area curled nicely past Murphy and the ball nestled onto the corner of the goal. The BU's rallied and had effort from McFarlane, Anderson and Grant either blocked by the defence or saved by goalkeeper Fry. On the half hour though Stirling had regained the initiative a bit and managed to cap off a period of pressure with the killer third goal. Campbell was played short with a pass and his effort at cutting out the danger led to a bad touch which Penker siezed upon, Murphy saved the first effort well but Penker was alert to stroke home the rebound. Locke had two attempts for the visitors before half time, the second forcing a great stop from Fry, and the visitors had it all to do in the second half.

No changes for either side at the interval and the hosts had the first scoring opportunity when a Jarvis effort flew over the bar. Ritchie set up Anderson for a shot which deflected just wide, then Ritchie himself had a pop from 25 yards which Fry did well to tip over. In the 68th minute united thought they had grabbed a goal back through substitute Kyle Bell. It was a nice move from Bo'ness, a lovely Grant crossfield pass finding Locke who controlled well, the winger found the advancing Bell and although his shot struck the inside of the post, agonisingly it bounced clear and the chance was gone. This seemed to deflate the visitors and the home side had two effort from Brown afterwards which Murphy was equal to.

Full time and a defeat for the BU's. There is no game this week for United as it is our turn to be idle in this round of fixtures.
