United take point at league leaders

Bo'ness United earned a credible draw against Lowland League leaders East Kilbride at K Park.

The BU's were boosted prematch with the loan signings of defenders Bryan Wharton and Daniel MacKenzie from Pollok Juniors and both made their way straight into the starting eleven. Craig Meikle and Craig Comrie also returned to action in a much changed side that drew with BSC Glasgow in midweek.

After a cagey start by both teams United grabbed a shock lead in the 7th minute. Zander Miller was played in with a lovely Tom Grant through ball, and the on form striker confidently found the back of the net for his fourth goal in two games. United were forced into an early change when Craig Meikle limped off, replaced by Stuart McFarlane which was unfortunate as the experienced Meikle was having a good game at the time. The hosts sprung into action now and enjoyed large spells of possession, twice coming close to levelling through Erskine and Woods but both times BU keeper Andy Murphy was on hand to keep out the home side. Erskine flashed a shot just wide from the edge of the penalty area before Bo'ness themselves threatened twice at the other end of the park with around ten minutes to play in the half, Tom Grant's drive from the edge of the box after great play from Miller drifted inches wide, and debutant Daniel MacKenzie struck the post after Miller and Ryan Stevenson combined well, the offside flag was up however so it wouldn't have counted regardless. After these chances for the visitors EK got themselves back on level terms with a fine goal in the 37th minute through Malcolm, a quality finish into the corner after slick build up play from Erskine and Paton cut through the BU backline.

Into the second half and an early chance for the hosts through Malcolm, his lob however didn't test Murphy to the relief of the Bo'ness defence. There was a blow for the visitors 5 minutes into the half when goalscorer Miller limped off to be replaced by Brian Ritchie. Ritchie set up a chance for Grant shortly after his introduction to the game but the midfielders effort was high and wide. Malcolm was again off target for EK midway through the half after a good piece of build up from the home side to release Armstrong on the left wing, a great cross found the forward unmarked in front of goal but he fluffed his header and the chance was gone. Despite enjoying vast spells of possession afterwards the home side were struggling to create any clear cut chances against a well organised and resolute Bo'ness defence who saw the game out well to grab a great point.
