Eight goal thriller at Newtown

Match report and Bryan's fan view report below!

Bo'ness United and BSC Glasgow fought out a hugely entertaining draw after a match which had it all, eight goals, two red cards and a penalty kick!

United manager Max Christie made one change to the side that saw off Berwick at the weekend with Zander Miller coming in for the injured Chris Donnelly, and with the injury list proving to be an major issue so far this season there were only three outfield players listed on the subs bench.

The first chance of the game fell to Bo'ness and Zander Miller will feel he should have done better than blaze over from the edge of the penalty area after good set up play by Kieran Anderson and Tom Grant to create the shooting opportunity. BSC were on the ascendancy however and and should have scored 90 seconds later through on-loan Talbot star Jamie Glasgow. From a Bo'ness corner two simple passes found Glasgow bearing down on goal however the forward fluffed his lob into the arms of a relieved Andy Murphy. The visitors were in absolute control of the game now with their attacking movement causing all sorts of problems for the BU defence and it was only a combination of poor finishing and great goalkeeping which kept the game goalless until the 25th minute when BSC took a deserved lead. The impressive Glasgow latched onto an Anderson pass to finally break the Bo'ness resistance. With 10 minutes of the half remaining out of nothing Bo'ness got themselves back into the game. There seemed to be little danger when BSC keeper Wilson received a pass back, Miller however was quick to close him down and nick the ball away leaving Wilson little option but to bundle Zander over. A penalty and red card were issued and after a lengthy delay, after a substitution and lengthy dialogue between the BSC players and referee, Ryan Stevenson held his nerve well and converted the spot kick. The home side were inches away from taking an unlikely lead into the break when Miller headed a Grant corner inches over bar with seconds remaining, but it was to be the away side who would go into the interval with the advantage after Bo'ness surrendered possession at half way, BSC broke upfield and Christie delivered an inviting cross for Glasgow to nod home his second of the game. A breathless first half and the second half promised more to come!

Withing two minutes of the restart the BU's were level after a nice 1st touch and finish by Miller after the forward was found in space with a good Stevenson cross. Bo'ness had a go now against the ten men and were looking threatening going forward, typically though a goal was coming and it was at the other end of the park, Glasgow's dangerous cross across the face of goal was bundled home at the far post by one of Christie or Snowdon who both challenged for the ball. We'll give the forward the benefit of the doubt! Once BSC retook the lead they also belied the numerical advantage and they pushed hard for the killer 4th goal. Unbelievably Bo'ness were to level then take the lead as Zander Miller completed his hatrick with two goals in 5 minutes midway through the second half. Firstly the striker tucked away a Brian Ritchie pass and he was again sharp to grab his third, striking the ball home after Anderson's freekick was touched onto the post by replacement keeper Barr. There were furious calls for an offside flag from the BSC defence but Miller appeared to be clearly onside when the free-kick was struck. The on-form united forward almost grabbed his fourth of the game in the 78th minute but he could only direct a free header in front of goal straight at Barr and the chance was gone. With a little under ten minutes to play the visitors drew level when McCormack finished at the back post from a Hughes corner kick, the eight goal of a crazy game! Into the closing stages Ross Campbell was shown his second yellow card of the game after bringing down Glasgow as he bore towards the Bo'ness goal. There were no more real chances afterwards other than a theatrical tumble in the box from a BSC attacker which the officials waved away, and United held on to seal the draw. In the end a very credible point gained against a top side in BSC who will certainly be title challengers this season.

The games keep coming thick and fast for the BU but with yet another win making the home side 1 of only 4 clubs left unbeaten this season in the league so far.
Like Saturday and the previous games it’s another established lowland league side that visit this evening. The 2 sides have met before in what was a home cup tie for the BU played at Carmuirs Park, Camelon during the time Newtown was undergoing the pitch work. Back then the home side left feeling robbed as end could and should have won in the 90 mins only to loose out but BSC showed then they are a hard team to beat and tonight will be no difference.
After and outstanding start to life in this next tier however the BU will enter the game with confidence and looking once again to keep the unbeaten start going.

Into the game then and it was the home side that kicked off attacking the goal towards fisons. Jacobs had an early long throw into the box that the costing keeper caught and minutes later a deep searching cross towards the back post found no one. The home side then had good play from left to right across the midfield before the ball was played forward . Locke cut inside and rolled a great ball across the box, Miller go onto it in his stride and struck the ball but his effort went well over the bar and out the ground. 10 minutes played and a corner for the BU was taken by Anderson and cleared by the visiting defence. Minutes later and after a great start from the home side it was the visitors turn to get forward a ball was rolled into the box and a shot on the angle stung the gloves of Andy Murphy. A few minutes later and Murphy was in action action this time a BSC corner was headed clear by Campbell but only as far as the visitors just outside the box, the resulting shot got through the bodies but Murphy was equal to it getting down low to make the save. Good cross field play once again by the home side fed the ball to Anderson who rolled it into the box only for it to be blocked and a quick counter by the visitors earned them a corner. 2 minutes later and drive from the edge of the box had Murphy in the BU goal busy again. Minutes later and a chance for the visitors to put another ball into the box from a free kick on the right hand side. It was however easily and calmly dealt with by the home defence. BSC were making the counter attack work for them on several occasion and once again the ball was stolen in the mid field and played forward quickly. This resulted in a corner which in the end turned into 3 the 1st kicked clear by Campbell the 2nd headed over the bar to clear and the 3rd saw BSC have a shot wide of the left hand post. On 25 minutes the 1st goal of the match came and it was classic counter attack, Murphy took a goal kick and the ball was won by the visitors on half way it was quickly played forward and a low shot found the corner BU 0 - 1 BSC. Straight after the restart the visitors were getting forward quickly again this time a ball fed up the left followed by a beat cut inside before a perfectly timed tackle allowed the ball to be cleared. Up the other end next and the BSC keeper was forced into a save. A minute later and a foul on Kieran Anderson saw the home side awarded a free kick on the right side of the box. In came a decent ball that was cleared only as far as Anderson on the edge his shot went wide of the left hand post. Another free kick this time in their own half for the home side saw Snowdon play the ball long only for Gemmel to then be fouled. The cross came in and the ball gathered by the visiting keeper. 33 minutes gone and a corner for the home side saw the visiting keeper cost his side a penalty as he pushed over Zander Miller. Out came the red car from the match referee and a sub had to be made to allow the sub goalie to take position between the sticks. Finally after an agonising 3 minute wait Stevenson calmly stepped up and slotted the ball into the net BU 1 - 1 BSC 36 minutes played. A couple of minutes later and a free kick to BSC on the edge of the box saw 3 players stood over the ball finally 1 had a direct hit but it was well off target over the cross bar. A forced change then came for BU Gaffer Max Christie as Nicky Locke limped off injured Brian Ritchie was his replacement. The final 2 minutes of regulation time saw the home side have 2 corners the 2nd leading to another counter attack for the visitors. 2 quick passes had the ball well over the half way line and after another 2 the ball was buried past Murphy and into the BU net. BU 1 - 2 BSC 45+1 a further 2 minutes were added and in the final one it was almost another goal for the visitors as the home side lost the ball in midfield the visitors played it quickly forward and a quick fire shot that looked to be on target was deflected for a corner. The ball in from it was pinched clear by Murphy and the referee blew for half time.
BU 1 - 2 BSC.

Into the 2nd half and the visitors got us underway only to loose a goal within the opening 2 minutes to square up the match. Stevenson crossed into the path of Zander Miller who produced a calm collected finish to send the ball into the net the visiting keeper left with no chance. BU 2 - 2 BSC 47 mins played. A free kick from the visitors was well saved by Murphy low to his left. 56 minutes played and another goal was added a low ball from the left wasn’t dealt with in the BU box and it rolled all the way over the face of the goal leaving a tap in at the back post BU 2 - 3 BSC. The home side tried to get right back in with a quick ball forward from the restart but the lines man on the far side quickly had his flag raised for offside. From the resulting free kick there was more counter attack play from BSC again quickly passing the ball forward and sending a cross into the box the resulting shot from it was blocked and the ball went for a corner. Again in came the ball and again it was headed away. A 2nd sub was made by BU Gaffer Max Christie as Kyle Bell replaced Will Snowdon. On 58 minutes the visitors tried a bit of counter attack as a BSC corner was cleared at the near post by Stevenson who started the break away with a long ball a BSC defender just getting to it first on the edge of the box and clearing any danger. Great play from substitute Brian Ritchie saw him roll a perfectly timed ball into the box and Zander Miller hit a fantastic low shot into the visitors net. 66 minutes played BU 3 - 3 BSC. Just 3 minutes later and the home side took the lead a foul on the edge of the box saw a free kick awarded centre of the goal and Kieran Anderson fancied a pop at it. He stepped up and a brilliant low shot came back off the post Zander Miller was in the right place at end right time to tap the ball into the net and complete his hat trick. BU 4 - 3 BSC 69 minutes played. A few minutes later and the home side fizzed a ball over from the right it only needed a touch for the 5th goal but no one got on the end of it. Forward again came the home side a long ball this time that Miller gave chase too only to be beaten by the visiting keeper who booted the ball clear on the edge of the box. 9 minutes of the match remaining and there was to be a twist as 10 man BSC scored again a corner was swung in and a the ball way too easily was headed into the net. BU 4 -4 BSC 81 minutes played. A minute later and Murphy in the BU goal was called into action saving a free kick that was curled in from wide. Into the final 5 minutes and a ball lost in the middle of the park had the visitors coming forward at pace once again resulting in a curling cross whipped over the home defence equal to it heading clear from inside the 6 yard box. The final minutes saw a long range optimistic effort from BSC saw a long range effort go high over the bar. The visitors were passing the ball between themselves as the home side were desperate to get hold of it for one last attack. 2 crosses in quick succession came across. BSC continued to push and a fantastically timed tackle by Stevenson inside his own box as the ball rolled for a corner. The delivery was too deep and a shot that eventually did come in was well wide. The last action fell to visitors BSC and a long range shot almost caught out Murphy as he managed to react and send the ball for a corner. The corner was cleared routinely and as the resulting goal kick was hit up field.
