Match Preview 2020 2021

Caledonian Braves, Lowland League, Newtown Park, Saturday 24 October 2020

Bo’ness United continue their Lowland League quest with a third home game, this time Caledonian Braves making a first visit to Newtown Park. Two players will be returning to familiar territory, goalkeeper Alex Marshall and Marc Kelly, both having played for the BUs in recent times. Marshall played understudy to Andy Murphy though played on 18 occasions. Kelly made 31 appearances scoring 8 goals in his time at the club.

The BUs are delighted with the start to the campaign with maximum points from the first three games and a healthy nine goal difference. Ten scored with one against also shows promise at both ends of the park. In saying that, Bo’ness know the games only get harder from here and, although the Braves lost their first two games, going down at Bonnyrigg Rose and at home to Berwick Rangers, they provide tough opposition who want to get off the mark sooner rather than later.

Caledonian Braves were formerly Edusport Academy, a residential football academy for young French footballers, based in the west of Scotland. They entered the South of Scotland League, winning the Title in 2017 to gain a place in the Lowland League. Although the academy is still part of the community club, the senior side changed its name to Caledonian Braves last year and now have a permanent home at Alliance Park based in the Strathclyde Country Park. The Braves finished mid table at the end of the curtailed season.

Bo’ness enjoyed a successful visit to East Peffermill with an eventual convincing win against Edinburgh University. A late first half goal by the trialist centre half was followed by two strikes from the returning Zander Miller and one from Chris Donnelly. Another positive was an increased squad to choose from, with the players available getting game time to facilitate their return to fitness. The BU Fans, unable to be there, and with no streaming service available, followed proceedings through Twitter, Facebook, Pie & Bovril and whatever means necessary. Not quite the same as being able to watch but still excitement as the latest updates came through.

Thankfully the fans will be able to watch this week, the game being filmed live by Sanctus Media, access to the stream via Fanbase at www.fanbaseclub.com. Tickets are purchased through the site, where registration is required, and the link to watch the match is emailed prior to kick off. The advice is to buy your ticket early to receive your link in ample time. The coverage provided by Sanctus Media is excellent with the use of multi cameras following the action completely.

The BU Faithfull watching know they will see a determined Bo’ness United striving to maintain their good start to the season with every player doing their bit to get a favourable result.
