Strong second half showing earns the points for the BU's

United grabbed their second win in five days after seeing off Vale of Leithen at Newtown Park. After a tight opening period the BU's blew the visitors away with three goals in a ten minute burst at the start of the second half. Manager Max Christie made a few changes to the side that saw off Cumbernauld in their previous outing, Ryan Stevenson and a Trialist defender coming in for another Trialist and the unavailable Will Snowdon, there was also a first start for on-loan East Fife youngster Kyle Bell who replaced Chris Donnelly.

Bo'ness were first to threaten in the first half and Vale keeper McGinley to make a smart stop to deny debutant Kyle Hall's curling effort. Vale were well in the game and almost on the half hour they should have taken the lead when Grotlin bore down on Andy Murphy's goal, the forward drageed his shot wide. One minute later there was controversy as Kinchant appeared to be clearly fouled in the penalty area but the match officials surprisingly turned down the appeal. Murphy again showed his class with a double save to keep the teams level going into the break.

It was a more positive performance from the BU's at the start of the second half and it took only four minutes for them to make the breakthrough. Tom Grant's deep corner was headed back across goal by the Trialist defender and Ross Campbell was in the right place at the right time to fire home the opener. Three minutes later the home sides advantage was doubled when Nicky Locke nodded home a delightful Ryan Stevenson cross, Locke's first goal since signing in the summer from Broxburn. On the hour it was three nil and game over when Locke grabbed his second of the evening. After patient build up play Locke took charge, dribbled into the box and sent a shot high past McGinley into the roof of the net. The scoring was completed in the seventy third minute when Kyle Bell drive into the box and beat McGinley with a composed finish.
