BU's advance

A view from the terraces submitted by BRYAN COPELAND!

Midweek under the lights at home is where the BU began their defence of the League won last year by a single Ryan Stevenson goal against Musselburgh at Penicuik Park.

Into the match then and as the rain came down the home side had the advantage of the wind that had got up a little attacking the goal towards the fisons end. The first shot on goal came from the visitors just inside the box a shot was hit straight at BU keeper Adamson who made a comfortable save. At the other end a through ball found Donnelly but he was judged to be offside as he went in on goal. The visitors came forward again and a free kick wide right gave them a chance to send the ball into the box. It was defended for a corner which in turn was defended well. 21 minutes in and the home side got a perfect opportunity to take the lead a foul inside the box saw the referee point to the spot and a yellow card was produced for the foul. Brian Ritchie steppes up and on 22 minutes it was 1-0 as he calmly slotted the ball low into the corner of the net. 2 minutes later and the lead was doubled the viewing keeper done well to save an initial shot but only managed to palm the ball to Kieran Anderson who couldn’t miss the open goal from the edge of the box. BU 2 - 0 Edinburgh United. The visitors responded with a shot if they own from outside the box but it was over the bar and failed to trouble the home keeper. The home side were getting into their stride however and looking dangerous. The back fell to Anderson who let fly from 30 yards or more and an absolutely sublime strike found the top corner of the net leaving the visiting keeper absolutely helpless. A magnificent goal. BU 3 - 0 Edinburgh Utd. Moments later and it could have been 4 as Comrie saw his effort come back off the woodwork with the visiting defence and keeper all beat. Ryan Stevenson was a low drive saved by the visiting keeper on the half hour mark as the home side looked comfortable and in control so far. Both teams enjoyed a bit of possession for the next 10 minutes with neither keeper called into action. 5 minutes from half time and a free kick outside the box in the centre of goal gave the visitors a chance but the direct hit at goal was high and wide. Other than a corner that came to nothing for this visitors and a cross from the left they the visiting keeper dropped them caught at that 2nd attempt there was no more action to report.

Half time Bo’ness United 3 - 0 Edinburgh United.

Into the 2nd half and a double change for BU Gaffer Max Christie saw Grant & Comrie replaced by Nimmo and Morgan. The visiting keeper was called into action with a save low to his left followed by another effort very close for the home side. The visitors got a goal back 13 minutes into the half almost a carbon copy of Kieran Anderson’s strike for the home side in the 1st half 30 yards at least and thundered in off the underside of the crossbar, peach of a goal. BU 3 - 1 Edinburgh United. The home side tried to respond immediately and a good move finished with a pass across the edge of the box only for the shot that looked to be in hitting the side netting. Morgan swung in a corner for the BU and after it being into ally defended the ball was won back and passed to him on the right, a great cross found the head of Donnelly who glanced his header just wide of the far post. Adamson in the BU goal was then made to work as he saved a shot from close range. The final change was made for the home side as Keast came on for Turnbull with 21 minutes remaining. The visitors tried their kick from distance again their time a low drive that went just past Adamson’s left hand post. The visitors were getting a bit more of the ball at this stage than the home side would like as thy struggled to hold onto it and produced some slack passes gifting possession back to them but no chances came of it as Adamson was kept quiet in the home goal for now. It wasn’t as convincing a display 2nd half from the home side with the failure to keep the ball and slack passes but the visitors were failing to capitalise on it and it was the visiting keeper with a save to make as Donnelly saw a low drive from the edge of the box saved with 7 minutes of regulation time to go. A good ball forward from Jacobs found Morgan who dug out a great cross that was headed behind for a corner although it was very close to an own goal as it just cleared the post. Morgan then took the subsequent corner that was headed clear but from half way Nimmo sent it back forward with a diagonal ball towards Morgan, as it was once again cleared a Jacobs won it back high up the pitch and sent a curling ball across the danger area unfortunately no one got a touch a on it and it ran out of play. Nimmo then found Keast out wide and his cross was gathered by the keeper. The visitors then got a free kick to the centre of goal but a good distance out. It was struck towards goal however but home keeper Adamson made a comfortable save as the clock ticked towards the 90 minutes.
