Bo’ness United start their campaign to retain the League Cup with home tie against Conference B side Edinburgh United. The BUs won the trophy last season against Musselburgh Athletic, Ryan Stevenson scoring the only goal of the game played at Penicuik Park.

Finishing well of the pace last season in Conference C Edinburgh have a chance of promotion this time round sitting fourth in the table with all to play for. In saying that they have recently lost at Dunipace and Kinnoull in the league although managed double figures at home to Coldstream scoring ten without reply. On Saturday Edinburgh lost at Leith Athletic in the King Cup while the Bo’ness match at Sauchie was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Edinburgh last visited Newtown Park almost ten years ago in a League Cup game, Bo’ness winning by the odd goal in five. Goals from Lumbert Katezla and Dean Thornhill sandwiched a Chris McFadyen strike giving the city side a half time lead. Roger Duffin equalised for Bo’ness just after the break and McFadyen got the winner four minutes from time.

Bo’ness are clear favourites to win the tie but cannot assume the victory. The players will be instructed to treat their opponents with respect and work hard to ensure a positive result. After Saturday’s cancellation the BU Faithful will be happy to have a game to go to and the opportunity to cheer on their favourites.
