BU's comeback to overcome Oakley

Match report kindly provided by BRYAN COPELAND.

Today’s prelude for the game starts with a thank you to both Camelon and Linlithgow Rose for making Carmuirs Park available to us today. As everyone knows by now Camelon’s home has been our home and will continue to be until work at Newtown Park is completed. A draw in the Scottish Cup last weekend between Dundonald Bluebell and Auckinleck Talbot meant a replay this week leaving Linlithgow with no game. With a game against Camelon to be scheduled and both teams having a free week the association gave them the match that was due for Carmuirs Park which meant a potential venue change or date change for the BU but thanks to Linlithgow, Camelon and the association, they all agreed to switch the match to Prestonfield Linlithgow and allow the BU the use of Carmuirs Park.
Looking ahead to today’s game it is the 1st home match of the season for the BU although it’s still technically away from home I’m sure you all know what I mean. The BU can go into the match with plenty confidence after a good start with 2 league draws and a win plus a cup win all at tricky tough places to go, coming from behind to finish 1-1 at Broxburn and after being ahead at Dundonald to then be a goal down a very late leveller rescued a point. The 1st win of the season came in exquisite fashion with a 6-1 win over in fife at Crossgates which was then followed by Alex Jack Cup progression after a resounding 5-1 win at Newtongrange Star in a game that was scheduled as a home fixture that had to be switched to an away match. This gives the BU plenty goals so far overall with 14 scored in all competitions and only 5 conceded.
We will know today’s opponents from the Junior days and I’m sure Max and the team will not be taking anything for granted even given the great start so far. The team and management along with the committee and fans are all looking for a successful season and continuing to progress in cups as well as climbing up the league table are all part of that.

Finally now into today’s game and it was taken in by the usual large BU Support. Manager Max Christie made changes to the team that won the last 2 games and other than a shot well over the bar for the home side there was little to talk about in the opening 25 minutes. On 27 minutes that all changed however as the visitors broke forward and played a good ball over the box, the ball wasn’t dealt with and as it was passed on again the visitors made no mistake in finding the bottom corner of the net. BU 0 - 1 Oakley. The home side struggled to get going again and on 33 minutes were lucky not to be 2 goals down. The visitors played a ball forward which Hewitt in the BU defence should have got but he was muscled out far too easy leaving a 1 on 1 situation with the now advancing Murphy who pulled off a great save to send the ball for a corner. As the mall broke out the home side got a free kick. It looked to be too far out for a shot but Morgan gave it a go and forced a really good save from the visiting keeper as the ball took a deflection on its way towards goal. The home side having been out the game for long spells came into it a little as half time neared with the Mooney breaking into the box but lost possession and as a corner was swung in the resulting chance produced a save from the Oakley keeper.
BU 0 - 1 Oakley - Half time.

Into the 2nd half and straight away the home side had an equaliser. A ball forward led to a corner and as the ball came in Donnelly was there to send the ball into the net. BU 1 - 1 Oakley. The joy was short lived however as the visitors went back in front. Campbell played the ball back to Murphy and unfortunately he missed it and the ball landed in the back of the net. BU 1 - 2 Oakley. 12 minutes into the half and it was level again Hewitt got on the end of a Morgan cross with a great header. BU Gaffer Max Christie then made a double change as Mooney & Donnelly were replaced by Keast & McKenzie. A good ball forward found Keast but he was judged to be offiside. The final change from the home side then came with 22 minutes remaining as Comrie was replaced by Snowdon. The final change also saw a tactical one as well as Snowdon took the right back position pushing Stevenson forward to the midfield. A big claim for hand ball then went up as a ball went into the visitors box but it was waved away by the referee. The home side were now startling to work the ball better and the visiting keeper had to be alert to collect a cross ball. Finally with 15 minutes to go the home side scored again a good ball played over the box found Morgan who calmly controlled the ball before firing into the net past the help less Oakley keeper. BU 3 - 2 Oakley. Some after the BU took the lead it was Murphy in the home sides goal that came to the rescue again as the visitors broke down the left wing. The ball came in and Murphy made a brilliant save from the goal ward effort to keep the BU in front. 4 minutes to go and more defending was required from the home side as the visitors swung a corner into the box. On the counter attack the BU got forward quickly but the ball was run out of play. Forward came the visitors again and won another corner as the home side tried to hold out for the final minutes. As the 90 minutes approached the ball was at the right end for the home side with a throw in parallel with the 18 yard box, Morgan collected it and kept possession well before passing it across the box. The ball came back to Morgan who fired it towards goal but a deflection sent the ball well wide. Keast picked up the ball and took it towards the corner but was closed down. The ball was played back by the visitors to the keeper and as he kicked it out McKenzie brilliantly closed it down before setting up Stevenson who slotted the ball home to secure the win in added time.
