Superb BU's set up Musselburgh clash

Match report kindly supplied by BRYAN COPELAND.

Having negotiated 3 league games all away from home so far with 2 hard fought draws and a resounding win the BU sit in the league with 5 points from a possible 9 and still unbeaten going into today’s cup tie. The match originally meant as a home fixture has been switched to our opponents on agreement of the EOS & both clubs due to the already known about ongoing work at Newtown Park and the fact that our temporary home of Camelon is being used by them for their Senior Scottish Cup tie rather than move days it is felt that the best option was to switch the tie. The change of venue shouldn’t phase the BU however because although it gives our opponents the home advantage the BU are well used to being away from home and will be other than 2 or 3 games to be played at Camelon until Newtown Park is available hopefully in late September. The resounding victory last week will have instilled confidence into the BU and hopefully that cam drove us forward to progress in the cup today.

Into today’s game then and it was taken in by a crowd with the usual large travelling support there to back the team. It was a fairly even start with both teams getting a bit of time on ball. Morgan swung in a corner for the BU that was cleared but no major talking points arose within the opening 10 minutes. A shot flashed across Murphy’s goal from the home side before 2 quick goals saw the game turn the visitors way. Morgan done well on the right and played a perfect ball across the 6 yard box leaving a tap in for Keast to make it Star 0 - 1 BU. The game had just got restarted when Morgan played a sublime through ball in to McKenzie and he calmly finished low into the net with a superb strike. As the visitors were now looking comfortable a ball played down the left had the home keeper rushing out his goal, a 50/50 ball was then well won by Morgan but due to keeper making something of nothing a free kick was wrongly awarded by the referee and Morgan found himself very harshly booked. It was turning out to be a great spell for the visitors as another good ball was played in by Morgan and palmed away by the home keeper. McKenzie had a decent shot saved from the opposite side shortly after as with 6 minutes of the 1st remaining it looked comfortable for the BU. The visitors were passing the ball well and a through ball was taken from McKenzie’s feet by the home keeper before the quick feet of Morgan earned a free kick outside the box within shooting range. Morgan & Nimmo stood over the ball and in the end Nimmo shot towards goal but the ball went wide of the post. With no more action the 1st half ended Newtongrange Star 0 - 2 BU.

Into the 2nd half and it was much the same as the 1st had ended with the visitors looking comfortable. 9 minutes in and it became more comfortable as Devon Jacobs brought the ball down and struck it superbly into the net. Star 0 - 3 BU. It was almost very quickly 4 for the BU as McKenzie had a great chance but put the ball wide of the left hand post. As the visitors still pressed forward a 4th goal came as the home defence were robbed of the ball on the edge of the box, the bistros broke into the box quickly and although the home keeper tried to rescues the situation getting his fingertips to the ball Keast was waiting at the back post to smash the ball in. Star 0 - 4 BU. The Gaffer Max Christie with the luxury of a full squad available today the made a double chance as Keast & Grant were replaced by Stevenson & Donnelly with 21 minutes remaining. 15 left to play and the Home side got forward for the 1st time in a while, as the ball came in the referee pointed to the spot for what looked like he was giving hand ball. The decision was very harsh to say the least and Nimmo ended up in the book for protesting the decision. The referee stuck to his original decsion and the penalty was taken. Murphy done really well and got a good hand on it but the ball still managed to cross the line and make it Star 1 - 4 BU. The 3rd change soon came from the BU Gaffer as Hewitt replaced Snowdon. With 10 minutes to play Hunter defended well as the home side tried to get down the right bit a minute later they did get a shot on goal that was close but didn’t trouble Murphy. 3 minutes to go and forward came the visitors again, as McKenzie broke into the box down he went and the referee pointed to the spot. Morgan having been the 1st man to score a trick of penalties last week stepped up again and cool as you like he slotted the ball low into the corner of the net. Star 1 - 5 BU. With no more action to report in the added time the match ended Newtongrange Star 1 - 5 BU.
