Slick BU's Open Preseason With Win

United returned to action with a friendly against Whitehill Welfare at Ferguson Park. Bo'ness could only name one substitute due to player unavailability, however they still produced a confident display against the side who were relegated from the Lowland League last season. The visitors took a deserved lead in the 14th minute when debutant Tom Grant's corner was flicked goalward by Brian Morgan and the unfortunate Gary Hamilton knocked the ball past his own goalkeeper. Two minutes later the lead was doubled when Grant raced clear onto a Stuart Hunter through ball and send the ball past Bejaoui. United spurned a few decent chances before Whitehill came back into the game before the interval. Scott Wright forced a great save from Andy Murphy in the BU goal and minutes afterwards the home side grabbed a goal back when Kieran Somerville sent a wonder strike from 25 yards into the top corner of the net. United created a few chances at the start of the second half but were stunned just before the hour mark when Whitehill equalised. Devon Jacobs was short with a pass at the back and Tony Muir took full advantage sending another stunning shot past Murphy from distance. Instead of the heads dropping, United changed formation and pushed Brian Morgan up top to form a front two with Fraser Keast. A minute afterwards the switch paid dividends when Morgan got on the end of a teasing Ryan Stevenson cross to hit a first time hit last the helpless Bejaoui. Midway through the second half the outcome was settled when Grant grabbed his second of the afternoon, this time a sublime lob after being found unmarked by the lively Keast. Both sides struck the woodwork afterwards, firstly Robbie Dowie for the home side and secondly Keast for Bo'ness before referee Gallagher blew the final whistle and bring an entertaining game to close.
