Bryan's weekly look at the action!

Match report kindly supplied by BRYAN COPELAND.

With new Gaffer Max Christie off to a 100% winning start the frustration of inclement weather last Saturday stopped a good run of results the BU were on with the match postponed. However a fair crowd turned out on Sunday to mark our Captain Chris (Dougie) Donnellys testimonial with old player and managers from both Bo’ness and local rivals Linlithgow turning out to play in a game where the man of the day scored a hat trick and the BU select beat Linlithgow 4 goals to 0 on what was a fantastic occasion.
Back to the real action today however for the BU and it’s a trip to Herriot Watt University to play this king cup tie with 2nd in the league still the main priority for the BU as Bonnyrigg are all but Champions, the 2 cups we are left in are a chance for a piece of Silverware.

Into today’s game and as always a good travelling support were there to cheer on the BU as the game got underway in decent conditions weather wise. The opening of the game was dominated by the visitors and on 6 minutes the breakthrough came as good play saw a ball played into the box. Poor defending from the home side allowed Keast to get the final touch to make it 1-0 to the BU. Murphy in the BU goal was called into action from the kick off for a routine save before more poo defending led to the 2nd goal for Bo’ness. The ball was played forward quickly and Donnelly was there to slot it home from inside the box to make it 2-0 BU. After the ball being played well from both teams around the midfield area it was the visitors back on the front foot with a good ball finding Donnelly who shot just wide of the left hand post. Wright then done well to win a corner which was swung in and game the home keeper something to do as he plucked the ball from the air. A header on target from Wright had the home keeper on his toes again as he saved well and the visitors domination continued as Keast broke forward down the wing quickly and crossed well only for the home keeper to be alert yet again. Keast was then next to have a shot on goal as he headed into the arms of the home keeper from 6 yards. A good move forward from the visitors work now 12 mins to half time ended with Stevenson hitting a good shot from outside the box that had the home keeper and defence beat only for the ball to rattle back off the post. A few minutes to half time and the home sides dominance was tainted with a goal back for the home side to make it 2-1 for the visitors. A good goal with a move down the right resulting in a good ball and decent finish. With no more action to speak off the half ended Herriot Watt 1 - 2 BU.

Into the 2nd half and it was a quite time start with only 1 thing to note inside the opening 20 minutes a sub from BU manger Max Christie as Keast was replace by Morgan. A foul gave the home side a chance from around 25 yards but the direct strike came back off a strong BU wall. The visitors were still enjoying most of the possession as they had down during this game and a chance to put the game probably beyond doubt came 3- minutes into the 2nd half with a very good effort on target. The visitors domination resulted in a corner 31 minutes in, Morgan took it short to Jacobs and the delivery into the box was a good one, Campbell met it and shit towards goal only for the home keeper to make a good save and leave the travelling support worried that for all the BU domination the score remained just the 1 goal separating the sides at 1-2. Wright was replaced by Prentice for the BU in Max Christie’s 2nd change. 7 minutes to go and the game was likely put beyond doubt as a quick move forward with good passing eventually found Morgan in the box who calmly side footed the ball into the net past the home keeper to make it 3-1 to the visitors. Just 2 minutes later a fantastic through ball found Donnelly who kept his composure to finish and put the game definitely beyond doubt as the ball hit the net yet again to make it Herriot Watt 1 - 4 BU. Right on the 90 minutes a foul gave the visitors a chance to swing the ball in from outside the box. The home side defended the cross well however to ease out any danger. Into added time and eh final change for the BU was made as Syme was replaced by McDonald before the final kick off the ball was a free kick from the BU that came to nothing. Overall a good performance from the BU with a domination of possession and win to progress to the next round of the cup. Full time Herriot Watt 1 - 4 BU.
