A break from league duty where the BU have won 3 on the bounce under new Gaffer Max Christie and a King Cup Round 2 tie which for a change is at home for the BU as we are used to being away a lot in cups. With a 5-2 home win already over Tynevastle in a match meant to be away but switched due to Tynecastle sharing their Meggetland home it was a resounding win for them Gaffer Steve Kerrigan. In the reversed away fixture back in January it turned out to be a miserable 0-0 draw with the BU it has to be said very poor that day. Now with Christie at the helm and the team on the back of 3 big wins I’m sure everyone will be looking to build on the progress made and get through the tie comfortably and into Round 3.

Into today’s game and as always it was taken in by a very good home support. The home side started kicking towards the Kinneil school end (preferred 1st half way) and in the opening 10 minutes as the rain came down and fans took shelter in the enclosure it was the BU with most of the. All but no clear cut chances either way. The Bu carved out a corner on 11 minutes and it was a good delivery but cleared quickly from danger. The home side were soon pressing again however and another corner made its way into the visitors box, as it was cleared a quick break opportunity came for Tynecastle and the got a good ball into the BU box which Snowden blocked, in the ball came again however and after a couple of bounces in the area it was eventually cleared by Hunter. 35 minutes played and as Donnelly broke forward he was fouled on the edge of the box, there was an argument for playing advantage as he still had the ball but the referee blew for the free kick. Morgan stepped up and his shot was straight into the wall and the visiting keeper gathered the rebound shot. Just am minute later Keast had a good effort well saved as the home side tried to break the deadlock. On 28 minutes Donnelly was through on the visiting keeper and his shot from the edge of the box went high over the bar. Forward came the home side again and on the half hour mark the visiting keeper was called into action again. This was followed by a great love down the left from the BU and a great cross was touched to Keast by Stevenson, Keast directed the shot towards the top corner but it was over the bar as the deadlock still failed to be broken on 33 minutes. With the home side looking the better of the 2 again they tried to break the deadlock with a good corner into the box it just missed everyone in the middle however and the ball went out of play on the far side. Donnelly was next up to again try and beat the costing keeper and a brilliant low shot from inside the box could have done it but for a great save from the man in the away goal. A minute from half time and it was again the home side doing all the pressing and another good delivery into the box from a corner, again the visiting keeper saved well and was helped out by his defence clearing the ball. Other than a long ball forward from the visitors there was no more action and the 1st half ended Bo’ness United 0 - 0 Tynecastle F.C

Into the 2nd half and it was much the same as the 1st with the home side the more dominant. 10 minutes in and a great cross into the box was well cushioned down into the path of Fraser Keast who took a touch and drilled the ball low into the corner of the net BU 1 - 0 Tynescastle. Forwards came the home side again and Donnelly made a great run down the left and cut inside before crossing the ball, the costing defence got to it just before it fell for a shot from close range as the home side continued to look the better side and comfortable. 17 minutes into the half and the visiting keeper was just again getting down low to his left to stop another shot that was on target. 21 minutes into the half and goal scorer Keast still coming back from injury was replaced by Comrie as Max Christie made his 1st substitution. Minutes later the game was definitely put beyond doubt as another good move from the BU ended with a great shot from Stevenson just inside the box to make it BU 2 - 0 Tynecastle. Looking ever more dominant the home side came forward again this time the ball ended up just wide and a goal kick was awarded. A 2nd change for the BU saw Campbell replaced by Syme and when the game got back underway there was 17 minutes remaining. It looked to be 3 goals for the home side just a minute later as Prentice done really well and with not being able to get a shot away he found Jacobs running in from the right hand side, he drilled the ball across the box and it broke to Donnelly just yards out, he stuck a foot out an made contact to direct the ball on target but yet again as he has been previously today the away keeper was excellent stopping the ball yet again. More possession for the home side followed in what was now most definitely a dominant display and it wasn’t long before another good ball made its way into the box this time from the far side the shot that followed was on target and yet another corner was awarded. I’m a very rare occurrence the delivery was poor and the ball went all the way to the far side for a throw in. 5 minutes to go now and Donelly came down the right hand side really well cutting inside the box, in cake the challenge which Donnelly avoided well and he kept hold of the ball to then cut on back from the line into the centre picking out Stevenson perfectly, he swung to shoot and the ball came off his boot and went high into the air when it could and possibly should have been the 3rd goal. It wasn’t long before the visitors were defending again as a long ball into the box had to be headed clear. Syme picked it up and ran down the left only for his cross to be defended for a corner. Morgan delivered well again and the ball had to be headed clear by the Tynecastle defence. With no more action other than a routine catch out the air from Murphy in the BU goal the match ended BU 2 - 0 Tynecastle.
