United Ease Past The 'Bell

Match Report kindly supplied by BRYAN COPELAND.

After a disappointing 0-0 draw away at Tynecastle last week the BU were looking to bounce back and on a positive note a rare occurrence of a home game greets the BU after an inspection at 9am this morning deemed the Newtown Park pitch to be playable.
Into the game and it was taken in by a decent crowd with the BU shooting their favoured 1st half way towards the Kinneil School end of the ground. It was a cagey start in all honesty with both sides trying to get a foothold on the game but with coming up 20 minutes gone the only point of note was a decent save from the visiting keeper. On 24 minutes a found outside the box saw the visitors shown a yellow card. Morgan stood over the free kick but his shot was blocked by the defensive wall. The home side got forward again on 28 minutes and the ball looking to be heading for the net went just wide of the post. On 31 minutes the visitors found themselves down to 10 men as again their No 5 made a shocking late tackle to earn a 2nd yellow and was sent towards the changing rooms. Fast forward to 34 minutes and the opening goal came the way of the home side. The ball fell nicely to McKenzie outside the box and he struck the sweetest of volleys sending the ball flying into the top corner of net leaving the visiting defence and keeper with no chance. Just after the Bluebell keeper was called into action as Stevenson done well to set up Comrie but the end shot was straight at the visiting keeper who made a comfortable save. The home side now had a bit of confidence about them as McKenzie got quickly down the right wing but his cross wasn’t great and failed to find a blue jersey in the centre. The visitors were getting ferocious with a tackle as another yellow card was flashed their way just before half time and with no more action the half ended.

Bo’ness United 1 - 0 Dundonald Bluebell.

Into the 2nd half and it started as the 1st half ended a foul from Dundonald giving a free kick to the BU. It was swung into the box well but came to nothing. 10 minutes in though a great chance came for the home side to put the game to bed but it was squandered from close range. Closely following was another chance for the home side with a good ball in the box, again the effort on goal came to nothing. 15 minutes into the half and another chance went begging, a foul from Dundonald gave the BU a free kick. A great delivery into the box from Morgan found Hunter rising only for his header to be saved by the visiting keeper, the ball was still alive for the home side however and Marty Wright hit a shot right against the keeper with Hunter then trying to get on the rebound only for the ball to go out for a goal kick. 20 minutes in and as the BU were fearing the missed chances coming back to haunt them finally another goal came, Donnelly done well cutting inside and sending the ball across goal only to see a Morgan shot blocked, as the rebound came out Wright was there to finally send the ball home making it his 15th goal of the season. (Thanks to Kev for that wee snippet) back to the action now and forward came the home side again this time the ball went wide from just outside the box. With the home side now looking in control with 15 minutes remaining, forward they came again this time a good defensive tackle saw the ball go behind for a corner. It was swung in and as hunter went for it the ball was headed away, back it came quickly this time with appeals for handball as the visitors cleared. 14 minutes now remaining and a change from BU manager Kegs saw Prentice replace Comrie. Forward came the BU again as yet another golden opportunity went begging Wright delayed on the left with his cross as players piled into the centre screaming for a pass, in the end the cross was deflected but fell to Donnelly who put the ball right at the keeper when it looked easier to score, the rebound fell to McKenzie and again as it looked easier to score he missed directing the ball into the net with it instead going straight into arms of the keeper. 7 minutes to go and it was now utter domination from the BU as Jacobs swung a great cross in from the left, McKenzie couldn’t quite get the ball out from his feet to shoot but he set up Wright who was waiting in the middle of the goal from only 4 yards and it was impossible to miss as he fired the ball into the waiting net. The 2nd change from BU manager Kegs saw Mckenzie replaced by Daramola. With minutes remaining the visitors did get forward and got a goal as ex Linlithgow & BU player Callum Smith found the net to make it 3-1 to the home side. Right on 90 minutes the visiting keeper had his gloves stung with a great shot from young Tiwi Daramola as he palmed the ball away for a corner. With no more action a happy home crowd let out a big cheer for the BU as the referee blew for full time. Overall a good performance and a great result for the BU.
