Strong Second Half Showing Earns Three Vital Points

Repot kindly supplied by BRYAN COPELAND.

Finally after a game postponed, the Xmas break and the BU being the idle team on the weekend before the start of the year its 4 weeks on and a happy new year to all associated with Bo’ness United.
A league game today to start 2019 for the BU and with near neighbours Linlithgow in a different Conference what could be called a local derby taking place today. With A chance to move up a level when the leagues are organised at the end of the season a big push will be required from the BU to ensure a minimum top 5 finish but I’m sure the coaching staff, Manager & players will still be aiming higher than that and we all know the strong support of the fans will remain behind them as it has done for many many years. Today was also an opportunity to look at the pitch at Dunipace given it’s laid by the same company that’s doing Newtown Park at the end of this season.
Into today’s game and it was taken in by a good crowd mostly from the away team with both teams having touches on the ball as they tried to make an early impression. The visitors were without suspended Morgan & Campbell and manager Kegs also had to take in the game from outside the dugout leaving Assistant Andy Shirra & coach Hogg on the touchline. The home side tried to pose an early threat with a couple of good balls into the box but they were well dealt with well by the away defence. The visitors did get forward as well but it was a like for like scenario with the defence clearing any danger. With 28 minutes played the visitors got forward well down the left and the ball cane across the box to Prentice, from a very acute angle he drove the ball low into the home keepers net for Dunipace 0 - 1 BU. The visitors were on the attack again straight away with Donnelly on the end of a good cross from the right only for the ball to go out for a corner. It was swung in from the far side but headed well clear of the home sides goal. On 36 minutes Comrie picked the ball up outside the box and tried his luck with a shot only for the ball to come crashing back off the post with the keeper looking to be beat as the visitors now asserted themselves more and looked to be the better side. Another good ball into the box found Wright who was free and should have scored only for his shot to go side of the post. Forward came the visitors again this time the home defence done well to clear any danger. In the final minutes of the half the home side did get forward again with a long ball being picked up and crossed into the box it but it was easily dealt with by the visiting defence and Murphy in the BU goal. The last action of the half came as Dunipace got a free kick, in it came and with no one picking up a simple shot went past Murphy and into the net to make it 1-1 with Hunter at the back for Bo’ness less than impressed by his team mates and letting them know about it.
Half time Dunipace 1 - 1 Bo’ness.
Into the 2nd half and with the floodlights now illuminating the pitch it was the visitors that took the lead once again through Marty Wright. The ball came in from a corner and there he was to send it into the back of the net. The home side weren’t giving up however and a chance that could have easily been a goal was well stopped by Murphy in the BU goal. Soon I’m came a cross from the home side as they looked to get back into the game this time the ball going over the defence and keeper with no threat towards goal. The game was then put to bed by the visitors as a terrible error and mix up between the home keeper and defence saw Tiwi Daramola nip in and steal the ball then slot it easily into the empty net. Dunipace 1 - 3 BU. Forward came the visitors again only this time to be denied by the home keeper. A free kick was awarded to the BU and a good ball in from the left had the home defence in high alert again, closely followed by another cross this time from the far side going for a corner. A substitution for the BU saw Shirra replace Prentice before the visitors were on the front foot again. A 2nd chance for the visitors saw Wright go off for Syme in a rather defensive looking change but given the subs available it was the only option. With 7 minutes remaining it was hold onto your hard time for the visiting support once again as the visitors found the net and pulled a goal back to make it Dunipace 2 - 3 BU. With the visitors fearing they would be holding on once again Andy Shirra eased any doubts with a calm finish from just inside the box with 3 minutes to go to make it Dunipace 2 - 4 BU. The final change for the BU was made as Will Snowdon replaced Comrie. Into injury time and Tiwo Daramola got in on goal really well only for the shot to come off the post. The visitors were now well back on top dominating play and possession and with the referee still not blowing for time forward came the visitors again with another good ball in the box. Forward came the visitors again this time Daramola did brilliantly to control the ball and get a shot away only for the home keeper to save it, the rebound came to Donnelly who lobbed the ball over the keeper and it bounced into the net to make it Dunipace 2 - 5 BU.
