Eyemouth United 1-8 Bo'ness United

REPORT KINDLY SUPPLIED BY BRYAN COPELAND

Rather than a sunny trip to the seaside for the BU it was a winter journey but with the weather not too bad and the BU still on a decent run of results other than the defeat to Bonnyrigg 3 weeks ago they went into this match full of confidence and with the hosts having a bad run the BU were looking to take all 3 points.
Into the game and it was the visitors with the majority of possession. Within 6 minutes it was a goal a well worked move saw Donnelly play in MacKenzie who calmly slotted home from close range. Eyemouth 0 - 1 BU. With the visitors dominating the game in every aspect some good football was being played which soon made the 1-0 become 2-0 Wright this time the goal scorer. 2 then became 3 as MacKenzie bagged his 2nd goal of the game. This was shortly followed by more BU pressure as yet again the ball was sent towards the he keeper. Jacobs then has a good effort from outside the box that didn’t miss by much. Then on 22 minutes the visitors lost a goal and it has to be said it was a poor one to loose specially given how well the game had started. A simple ball played forward found the home forward in an advanced position and even though he looked to be well offside play was waved on, into the box he came and put the ball into the net beating Murphy at his near post. On 26 minutes there was another goal as the visitors worked the ball well into the box and Wright claimed the goal although it looked like a potential O.G from distance. Forward came the BU again this time a great ball from Donnelly found MacKenzie our wide in came the cross and it was defended for a corner. The hike side got forward again but Campbell done well to defend before being fouled. Then yet again this half the home keeper was called into action another good ball forward was hit early towards goal. As the visitors got forward again the ball into the box this time was just slightly delayed causing offside to be given as the ball hit the right hand post. With 5 minutes of the half remaining a good corner was swung in from the BU it was well defended however and allowed the visitors to quickly break forward so good decisive blocks and tackles cleared any danger. Another chance soon came the visitors way this time it was well cleared away. With visitors well in control with good football good chances good goals and a very instrumental midfield display with Andy Shirra pulling the strings the half ended Eyemouth 1 - 4 Bo’ness.
Into the 2nd half and BU manager Kegs made a change as the young Trialist that also came on last week replaced Prentice. The visitors picked up where they left off with a good ball into the box from McMullin and Wright got on the end of it only to see the effort well cleared with a diving header and the ball sent for a corner. In it came and after a bit of ping pong in the box Hunter had a good header cleared off the line. Wright was then on the scoresheet making it 5-1 to the visitors and possibly claiming a hat trick if the 2nd wasn’t an OG. It then could and probably should have been a 2nd goal for the home side as a very good effort was defended for a corner. Another chance was forced on BU manger Kegs as Wright limped off and was replaced by Morgan. The visitors made it 6-1 with another good move down the left wing, the cross was pin point to the centre of the goal leaving substitute Morgan with the easy job of heading the ball home. It should have been another goal as again the ball was played into the box and the shot on goal went just wide of the home keepers left hand post. Another good ball was played in this time from wide right the home keeper made the same this time to keep the score 6-1 to the BU. Forward came the visitors again this time offside beat them as the ball was struck goal wards. A quick break from the home side saw them have a chance but the shot was tipped over the bar by BU keeper Murphy. It was soon 7-1 as the Trialist did really well and cut the ball back leaving Jacobs to finish it off. The visitors soon had the ball in the net again this time Campbell was the man scoring only to see it ruled out for offside and the score remained Eyemouth 1 - 7 BU with now 15 minutes remaining. The BU got a corner following good play down the wing and as it was swung in Campbell got a goal this time as he headed home convincingly to make it 8-1 BU.
