Strong Second Half Earns United The Points

Report kindly supplied by BRYAN COPELAND.

After success in the cup at Dundonald last week the BU were back to league action in a fixture originally scheduled to be away from home but with a rugby fixture meant to be played the game was switched meaning the reverse fixture into next year will be at Megitland where Tynecastle FC play their home games.
Into today’s game and it got underway with the BU attacking the Kinneil School end. In a bit of a scrappy start very surprisingly the home side found themselves a goal down as the visitors with what looked like a very very young team got forward and played a ball into the box, it came off the BU defence and into our own net. The BU got forward a couple of times but there was no cutting edge as the chances were squandered. Worryingly for the BU the visitors broke forward quickly thankfully the defence got a tackle in before the ball made it near the box. As the opening 20 minutes came and went the game began to look more and more scrappy with no chances to talk about being created. This was shown even more when on 25 mins the BU tried to hit a free kick direct to goal from about 40 yards. Forward again came the visitors this time with an overhit ball into the box that went over everyone. As the home side continued to look very poor the visitors again got a ball into the box this time Jacobs with a man on passed back to Marshall in the BU goal who hit the ball clear. It looked so far as though the home side thought they just had to turn up and the home crowd grew continually frustrated as it was now 12 minutes to half time. A good ball forward had the BU scrambling back once again and the call was well kept in and cut back into the box, it was quickly cleared and the home side got forward only for the visiting keeper to be alert and quick of his line to smother the ball on the edge of the box. As half time approached there was a lot of BU possession with plenty passes going on but no cutting edge shown with the visiting keeper only having 1 save to make and that a very straight forward one. Forward came the BU again with a decent cross into the box and a shot headed towards goal but the visiting keeper again saved. Into added time at the end of the half and the BU had a corner. It was swung into the box but came to nothing. Forward came the home side again and won a free kick on the far side. The ball came into the box and a shot was sent goal wards but it was quickly blocked. As the players left to the frustrated boos of the home fans at half it can only be hoped that the 2nd half is better.
Half time BU 0 - 1 Tynecastle
Into the 2nd half and before it started Syme was replaced by Campbell. It began all Bo’ness with the keeper having a decent save. The pressure was kept on and as MacKenzie missed with his head Donnelly was there with a volley that went just wide. Another shot headed towards the visitors goal his time it was deflected for a corner. In it came and finally the home side got a goal As McMullan got on the end of the cross and sent the ball into the net. The home side now at least looked up for the game playing at a high tempo and pressing the visitors at every opportunity something that was severely lacking in the 1st half. It was soon 2-1 to the home side as again forward we came this time Morgan finished well low into the net. Forward came the home side this time with a shot always rising that went over the bar. As another attack started soon after the ball was deflected away for a corner as it headed towards the visitors box. In it came and Wright was there to slot in into the net for 3-1 BU. The 2nd change from BU manager Kegs saw Sweeney replaced Donnelly with 19 mins remaining. Again the ball came forward from the home side and MacKenzie looked nailed on to score if he had shot but instead he played the ball back, Wright was there however and calmly placed the ball in off the post to make it 4-1 BU. The visitors were defending again this time as a free kick was send into the box it was cleared high up the pitch and there was a break in play as the voting physio treated one of the players. The 3rd and final change came from BU manager Kerrigan as 2 goal man Wright went off to be replaced by a Trialist. As the game got back underway it was soon another goal for the home side as Campbell got on the end of the ball and sent it goal wards for BU 5 - 1 Tynecastle. Into the final 5 minutes and a totally different looking BU side to the 1st half were now cruising towards victory with no threat at all from the visitors. Another corner was swung into the visitors box after Sweeney done well down the wing. Another corner shortly followed this time it was taken short before being crossed in. Another good move forward saw a great ball played into feet inside the box but the visiting keeper done enough to stop any goal. Now into added time the home side were passing the ball well keeping good possession. The visitors got a free kick in a final effort but the ball was well past Marshall’s post. Thinking the game was seen out well the BU got s final shock from the visitors as a ball was played into the box and hit into the net in a good strike to make it BU 5 - 2 Tynecastle. The home side centred the ball and as it was kicked from the centre circle the referee blew for full time.
