BU'S Remain Undefeated in EOS

Report by Bryan Copeland

After the heroics of last week holding out with 10 men to reach a cup final with a win over Haddington the BU should be back to league duty today on a high however with events yesterday seeing the BU kicked out the cup and no final to look forward to having played an ineligible player the mood in the camp must be rather somber. Hopefully today though it’s a case of it’s happened let’s get on with it for the BU as we look to get 3 points and build momentum going into next weeks big game at home to Bonnyrigg Rose.

Into today’s game and it was taken in by a good crowd as the visitors were going from right to left in the 1st half. An altercation between Campbell and ex BU player Callum Smith in the 1st 10 minutes saw Campbell sent off when the 2 players went shoulder to shoulder but Campbell was judged to have led with his elbow and saw a red card shown. It looked then that the BU switched to a 3 at the back with Syme, Snowden and Donnelly. On 16 minutes a chance came for the visitors as Marty Wright had a shot on goal that came back off the cross bar. All told so far the visitors still looked the better side but the home side got forward just after the half hour and Marshall was picking the ball out the net after what can only be described as a scrappy goal. Dundonald Bluebell 1 - 0 BU. With the visiting BU still looking by far the better side even with 10 men another couple of decent chances fell our way with no end result. 5 minutes from half time and the BU got the chance to level as MacKenzie was brought down inside the box. The referee pointed to the spot for a penalty and appeals from support and players for a yellow or red card were ignored by the referee. Also complaining was BU manager Kerrigan on the touch line who saw a sending off for his troubles. Finally Wright stepped up to take the penalty an levelled the match Dundonald 1 - 1 BU. The visitors quickly pressed forward again and a hard tackle won a free kick on the left of the box but it came to nothing. A cross well over hit was the only threat from the home side as half time approached. With no more action the half ended
Dundonald Bluebell 1 - 1 Bo’ness Utd.

Into the 2nd half and the visitors found themselves behind again as Dundonald went 2-1 in front. 17 minutes into the half though it was all square again as Marty Wright produced a sweet shot past the home keeper. With the visitors still looking the better of the 2 teams Syme swung a free kick in from the left that was clutched by the home keeper, shortly followed by a good ball through from Morgan that Prentice got on the end of but the final shot went wide of the post. Unfortunately 15 minutes from time things got worse for the visitors as the referee pointed to the spot for a penalty to Dundonald. The situation then got even worse as the referee showed double standards and sent Snowdon off for the foul when not even a yellow was shown to the home player at the BU penalty in the 1st half. Back to the action and a fantastic save from Marshall sent the penalty shot for a corner. Still appealing to the referee Gemmil for the BU saw a yellow card. Then, In came the corner from the home side and the delivery was headed into the net to make it Dundonald Bluebell 3 - 2 BU. The 1st change for the now 9 man BU came with 11 minutes to play as Sweeney replaced Prentice. The visitors got forward and won a corner but the home side were 1st to the ball and cleared it. The clearance became a quick break as a ball played across finished with a shot on goal that Marshall saved. The resulting corner came to nothing as a goal kick was awarded when the ball went behind. Forward came the home side again and in a 1 on 1 situation Marshall made a brilliant save to stop another goal. The visitors never gave up however even with 9 men and Wright done well on the right to win a throw. The ball came into the box and Marty Wright was there this time with a header and the crowd watched the ball sail into the net for 3-3 meaning Wright completed his hat trick. On the 90 minutes hat trick hero Wright was replaced by Devon Jacobs. Now deep into stoppage time the visitors were awarded a corner that looked like a goal kick. It was well defended however and that was to be the last action.
Full time Dundonald Bluebell 3 - 3 Bo’ness Utd.
