BU'S smash 10 past Tweedmouth

With the EOS league campaign still to get underway it was another cup tie for the BU and surprisingly yet another home draw as we welcome Tweedmouth Rangers to Newtown Park for the first time. It’s also the first time the BU have competed in this cup.
Into the game and it was taken in by a decent home support who within a few minutes of the game Starting were cheering as the BU took a 1-0 lead. A good cross found Keast who made no mistake finding the back of the net. The visitors had a chance shortly after but Marshall made a comfortable save. With 11 minutes played it was more joy for the BU as Captain Dougie (Chris Donnelly) got on the end of a cross and put a header away beautifully into the net. Another chance for the BU followed straight after as the visiting keeper made a good save then the rebound hit off Keast and sent the ball out of play. The BU were peppering the visitors goal as yet another shot went in this time just over the cross bar. It was 3-0 just after though as Morgan was next to find the net for the BU. More chances came for the Home side as the visiting keeper made a good save and sent the ball for a corner. Yet another shot on goal for the BU came close and with 20 mins played it was 4-0 as Morgan scored his 2nd of the match. The home side clearly coasting relaxed a bit too much as the visitors broke forward and got through the defence to slot the ball past Marshall in the BU goal to make it 4-1 with 23 minutes played. The visitors managed to get forward again playing the ball down the left which resulted in a nothing cross into the box but with 28 mins played the BU were clearly in control as Marty Wright got on the score sheet to make it 5-1 to the BU. On 31 minutes Gemmil was fouled just inside the box for a penalty to the BU. Even with Morgan on a hat trick regular penalty taker Will Snowden grabbed the ball and claimed the spot kick. It was poorly struck towards goal and the visiting Tweedmouth keeper saved it before Snowden got hold of the rebound and hit it well over the cross bar. It wasn’t long before another shot headed towards the visitors goal this time the ball ran past the left hand post. On 37 minutes it was 6-1 as yet another BU player got on the score sheet, this time Ross Campbell with the header into the net. The visitors got forward on another rare occasion but the offside flag was quickly raised as the ball came over the box causing no danger to the BU defence. Forward went the Home side again and with 4 minutes of the half remaining a corner came in from the left hand side, a header was sent towards goal but went over the visiting keepers cross bar. With a minute extra added on and no more action the 1st half ended BU 6 - 1 Tweedmouth Rangers.
Into the 2nd half and it was more of the same with the BU dominating the game. 2 early substitutions from BU manager Stevie Kerrigan saw Snowden & Gemmil go off to be replaced by McDonald and MacKenzie. 12 minutes into the half the BU were scoring again Campbell with his 2nd of the match making it 7-1 BU. Then with 14 minutes to go the ball crashed off the underside of the bar and down onto the goal line. The linesman ruled it to be a goal and it was 8-1 to the BU Campbell credited with the goal from various supporters but from my stand point it was hard to tell. Also I couldn’t possibly say if it was a correct decision or not, as a BU fan however I’ll take the goal. Yet again the Tweedmouth goal was being peppered as the visiting keeper was left scrambling over his goal line to clear the ball away for a corner. In it came but no danger this time to the visitors. 23 minutes into the half and another sloppy goal to concede for the BU as the visitors got forward and found the net to make it 8-2. Captain Dougie was next up to have a pop at the visitors goal with a good shot that stung the gloves of the visiting keeper with now 20 mins remaining of the match. The visitors then got forward again but their attack came to nothing. The final sub for the BU was used with 17 mins remaining as Keast was replaced by Rintoul. Marty Wright then rattled the cross bar with another good effort on goal. A minute later it was 9 for the BU as Campbell now un-doubtably completed his hat trick with a low shot into the corner of net. Another shot was soon sent towards the visitors goal this time it was cleared for a corner. From the corner the ball was knocked about the penalty area and the final shot from Captain Dougie hit the side netting although the flag was already up for offside. Marty Wright then showed good control as he brought the ball down with 2 touches from a cross and volleyed it just over the bar. Forward came the BU again with now only 3 mins remaining, the linesman on the near side flagged for offside however. Marty Wright was then in on goal but pulled up with what looked to be an injury before he got his shot away, thankfully he was up again quickly and although he looked to be struggling a little played on. He then got a 2nd goal a minute later with a cool finish to make it 10-2 BU. Straight from the kick off with no added on time the referee blew the final whistle BU 10 - 2 Tweedmouth Rangers.
Overall an expected win and a good display from the home side.
