Stevenson reaches 200!

Ryan Stevenson

Congratulations to Ryan Stevenson on making his 200th United appearance this midweek! Ryan has also scored 45 times so far and we're sure he'll crack the 50 mark before too long. We caught up with him this week to chat about his time at the BU.

That's you now made 200 appearances for your hometown club, how does it feel to hit this landmark?

RS - It’s a proud moment for me to make so many appearances. For any club it is an achievement, but for your hometown team makes it extra special.

You've played in a variety of positions for United but for the last couple of seasons you've played almost exclusively at full-back, a bit of a change from an attacking midfielder but it seems to be working well for you.

RS - It was a big transition going to full-back from playing in forward positions growing up, but then I started to enjoy it and realised I would see more of the ball there. I still feel I’m learning things about playing there to this day.

You are closing in on a testimonial now if you include the loan seasons, does it really seem that long as I remember you scoring on your debut (vs Rutherglen in the SJFA cup) and it seems like yesterday!

RS - It only doesn’t feel that long ago I played against Rutherglen in the Scottish. I couldn’t have asked for a better start to my time here with a goal and assist. It was the start of a great run we had in the Scottish that year and it still hurts to this day what happened in the quarters finals that year. Not many seasons now until my testimonial season so it’s something to look forward to.

You've also scored almost 50 goals in that time, do you have a favourite? There have been more than a few crackers tbf!

RS - One of my favourites was the one against camelon the year we won the league (EOS). At the time they were in the title race and it was a tight game so it helped us win an important game.

Appearance milestones:

1 vs Rutherglen in the SJFA cup, a goal and assist from the bench.

50 vs Musselburgh in a 4-3 win (1st floodlit game at Newtown Park).

100 vs Edinburgh University in a 0-0 draw.

150 vs Open Goal Broomhill in a 4-3 win.

200 vs Civil Service Strollers in a 3-2 win.
