Match Preview 2026 2027
Tranent
Lowland League
Foresters Park
Saturday 31 October 2026

After a good midweek win at Bonnyrigg Rose, Bo’ness United now face table topping Tranent at Foresters Park. The sides met at Newtown Park early in the season when the BUs narrowly missed out. After a goalless first half Tom Grant put Bo’ness ahead after the turnaround but it was Tranent who went on to win, Harry Girdwood equalising before Euan Bald scored the winner late on, both goals coming from Ryan Murray long throws into the box (Report). Last season’s clash at Foresters Park finished all square when Bo’ness matched the home side throughout. Lewis Hodgkiss put the BUs ahead in the first half, Robbie McIntyre equalising after the turnaround. Both keepers did their bit to keep the score down and in the end the draw was a fair result (Report).

Tranent made a great start to the season though will be disappointed exiting the Scottish Cup at Clydebank on Saturday. They also lost heavily at home to Lochee United the week before following a draw at Broxburn Athletic. Linlithgow Rose, Brechin City and Hill of Beath Hawthorn are now only one point behind and Tranent want to get back to winning ways.

Bo’ness are currently on a good run of form after league wins against Brechin City and Bonnyrigg Rose with cup victories at Crossgates Primrose and at home to Irvine Meadow XI and Forfar Athletic. The match at Bonnyrigg proved a tight affair and was settled with a single BU goal scored in the second half by Jackson Mylchreest.

The BUs are keen to keep things going though once again the players must be at the top of their game to get anything from the contest. There are no monsoon conditions expected this weekend so hopefully a good number of the BU Faithful can get through to Foresters for their own competition in matching the noisy home crowd.

BO’NESS UNITED MATCH SUMMARY SEASON 2026/2027

Date – Saturday 25 July 2026

Competition – Lowland League

Bo’ness United 1
(Grant 53)

Tranent 2
(Girdwood 69, Bauld 90)

After a competitive display Bo’ness United came up short as a late Tranent goal saw the points heading to East Lothian. After a goalless first half Bo’ness went ahead eight minutes after the turnaround, Tom Grant smashing the ball into the net off the bar from the edge of the box. Fifteen minutes later Tranent equalised from a long throw that Harry Girdwood forced home from close. Bo’ness responded and Roan Fitzpatrick was unfortunate to see his low shot go just past the post. The winner came from another long throw this time it was Euan Boyd who put in from a few yards out. Again Bo’ness looked to get something from the game but Tranent keeper Kelby Mason tipped a great Alfie Smith shot over the bar.

There was little between the teams both missing chances but it was Bo’ness who were left to regret the spurned opportunities getting nothing from a game where they looked as if they might make a positive start to the campaign.

BO’NESS UNITED MATCH SUMMARY SEASON 2025/2026

Date – Saturday 28 March 2026

Competition – Park’s Motor Group Lowland League

Tranent 1
(McIntyre 59)

Bo’ness United 1
(Hodgkiss 18)

Bo’ness United earned a hard fought point at Tranent where the BUs matched their opponents and the draw was a fair reflection on what was an open and entertaining match. Robbie McIntyre and Kieran Mitchell went close for Tranent and Bo’ness. It was developing into an open game and it was Bo’ness who went ahead just short of twenty minutes, a Kieran Mitchell pass sending Lewis Hodgkiss through to slip the ball past the advancing Kelby Mason. Cameron McKinlay brought out at great save from BU keeper Allan Fleming as Tranent looked to get back and Kelby Mason was not to be outdone, saving from Lewis Hodgkiss and Mark McLuckie in quick succession. Allan Fleming produced another great stop from Cameron McKinlay and the BUs went at the break in the lead.

Bo’ness had the strong wind in their favour in the first half and it was Tranent’s turn to have the elements in their favour. They pushed forward and with sixty minutes on the clock equalised as Robbie McIntyre got onto the end of a free kick cross to head into the Bo’ness net. Tranent’s tails were up but Bo’ness responded positively, both sides going out for a winner. Despite attempts on goal at either end the keepers were determined not to concede again and as the game neared the end it was the BU Faithful who were to be heard, the Tranent support subdued as their team looked unlikely to get the three points to maximise their chances of a Title win.

This was a determined display from the BUs and with three games left, hope to increase their points tall while finishing as high in the table as possible.
