Match Preview 2025 2026
Heart of Midlothian B
Park’s Motor Group Lowland League
Ainslie Park (Vanloq Community Stadium)
Friday 13 February 2026

Over the season Bo’ness United have enjoyed good spells though have experienced some sticky periods and after four victories the BUs have lost their last two games and want to nip things in the bud and get back to winning football matches. That starts on Friday at the Vanloq Community Stadium against Hearts B who are also keen to get the win that builds on last weekend’s victory at Linlithgow Rose. Apart from that win at Prestonfield, recent form has seen the young Jambos defeat University of Stirling but lose at Tranent, Albion Rovers and at home to Civil Service Strollers.

Hearts visited Newtown Park earlier this season where the BUs got the better of the Edinburgh side, leading at halftime thanks to a Kieran Mitchell penalty conversion. Alfie Osborne brought the young Jambos level but a second Kieran Mitchell strike and a Roan Fitzpatrick goal before the end sealed the points for Bo’ness (Report). In last year’s meeting in the Capital Bo’ness managed a win thanks to a goal in each half from Tom Grant and Kyle Johnston (Report).

On Saturday Bo’ness lost out to Caledonian Braves, going two goals down before pulling one back only to lose a third before the break. Bo’ness scored a second late on but it proved too little too late, the result a disappointment for the BUs (Report).

As usual with the B sides their players will be fit, full of running with no little skill and Bo’ness need to be up for it knowing they must work for the full ninety minutes if they want a positive result. Perhaps not the night out in Edinburgh that comes to mind but hopefully the BU Faithful can forgo their usual Friday activity and head to Ainslie Park to cheer on their favourites.

BO’NESS UNITED MATCH SUMMARY SEASON 2025/2026

Date – Saturday 01 November 2025
Competition – Park’s Motor Group Lowland League

Bo’ness United 3
(Mitchell 26 (pen) 73, Fitzpatrick 85)

Heart of Midlothian B 1
(Osborne 60)

Bo’ness United made it three wins from their last four Lowland League matches with a home victory over Heart of Midlothian B. The opening scenes saw the ball finding most of the park though despite the open play there were few clear cut chances, the closest a Kieran Mitchell shot straight at Hearts keeper Jack Lyon. However, a few minutes short of the thirty Mitchell did find the target from the spot after Jordan Armstrong was fouled in the box.

The first period had Bo’ness playing into the wind and after the break it was Hearts facing the elements. For thirty minutes the young Jambos knocked the ball about, Bo’ness largely on the back foot during which Hearts pulled one back, Alfie Osborne’s shot from the edge of the box zipping low past Matthew Wallace into the corner of the net. At this point the game was finely balanced, the outcome not certain but with fifteen minutes remaining Bo’ness regained the lead, Kieran Mitchell running onto Jack Hodge’s fabulous through pass ball before angling past Jack Lyon. The goal seemed to knock the stuffing out of the Hearts youngsters and Bo’ness made sure of the points with a Roan Fitzpatrick free kick that curled in off the far post.

The win sees Bo’ness maintain their sixth position on the table and now face a difficult midweek game at Bonnyrigg Rose.

BO’NESS UNITED MATCH SUMMARY SEASON 2024/2025

Date – Friday 06 September 2024

Competition –Park’s Motors Group Lowland League

Heart of Midlothian B 0

Bo'ness United 2
(Grant 20, Johnston 62)

Bo’ness United enjoyed a successful Friday night at Ainslie Park where they achieved a well deserved win against Heart of Midlothian B. A goal in each half inflicted the damage in a contest that was played at a fast pace throughout.

In the first half play raged from end to end though without too many clear cut chances created. Just before the twenty minute mark Ryan Porteous connected with a Tom Grant free kick cross but his header hit the bar. Just after that Bo’ness thought they had earned a penalty when Smart Osadolor was fouled but the officials adjudged the offence to be just outside the box. It didn’t matter anyway as Osadolor’s shot from the edge of the box was too hot for Hearts keeper MacDonald to handle and Tom Grant followed up to put the loose ball away. Hearts were getting forward but their final ball and shooting was letting them down, their technical area having to ensure they had a good supply of balls to let the game continue.

The second half continued in the same manner, Hearts keen to get themselves back in the game. As it was, with just under thirty minutes remaining Bo’ness scored as a second when Ryan Porteous flicked on a Tom Grant corner and Kyle Johnston was in the right place to knock the ball home. Hearts worked hard to stage a revival but they were up against a set of players desperate to take all the points. Bo’ness matched the energy levels of the young Jambos until the final whistle and left the field to the applause of an appreciative BU Faithful.

Bo’ness have now won four of their last five league games and thirteen from a possible fifteen points see them only one short of where they were at this time last season. The BUs want to continue this improved form and everyone will be working hard to make this possible.

Bo'ness: Campbell, Stevenson, Macaulay, Trialist, Irving, Grant, Stenhouse (Mitchell 88), Johnston, Osadolor, Porteous (Henderson 80). Kennedy (Malcolm 88) Subs (Not Used): Gemmell Hawkins Duffy, SG: Melrose

BO’NESS UNITED MATCH SUMMARY SEASON 2025/2026

Date – Saturday 24 January 2026

Competition – Park’s Motor Group Lowland League

Bo’ness United 2
(Hodgkiss 42 Fyfe 90+2)

Caledonian Braves 3
(Breadner 12 pen, Kalala 23, Walker 44)

After an impressive run of results February has not got off to a good start, the League Cup defeat against Tranent followed by a loss at home to Caledonian Braves. Things might have been different in the opening minutes as Braves keeper Bernard White punched away a Dan Irving shot, Lewis Hodgkiss following up to head over. This preceded two decent penalty claims, both turned down by the referee and ironically a penalty award at the other end saw Caley take the lead. The referee adjudged Alasdair Davidson’s tackle on former BU Lennon Walker a foul and Cameron Breadner stepped up to convert from the spot. Ten minutes later things got worse for Bo’ness when Gravine Kalala cut inside to fire a low deflected shot past Allan Fleming in the BU goal.

Three minutes before half time Bo’ness pulled one back, Kieran Mitchell’s pass sending Shaun Brown to the by line and his cross was headed in by Lewis Hodgkiss, his first for the BUs. A great time to score but only a minute later Lennon Walker pounced onto a short pass back to slot in, Bo’ness once again facing a two goal deficit.

A change of personnel and formation after the break saw Bo’ness set about retrieving the situation but as in the first period Caledonian Braves pressed all over the pitch, the Bo’ness players seldom given room to create too many chances. Bo’ness worked to get back though struggled to make an impression and it was only two minutes into time added on they did pull one back, Lucas Fyfe turning to shoot low just inside the near post. Another first but it proved too little too late and Bo’ness need to regroup to get back to the form shown at the turn of the year.
