Bo'ness United update for February 2022
On the fourth of February we woke to the tragic news of the sudden passing of our chairman and friend Iain Muirhead. The simply incredible amount of messages and calls we received from people and fellow clubs all over the country expressing their sympathies to the Muirhead family was of great comfort and we thank you all.
The minute of silence before the Musselburgh match was particularly moving. Thank you to Robert, Vernin and Thomas who took over at the turnstiles to help us participate in the prematch arrangements.
We said a final farewell on Friday the 25th at a packed Newtown Park and then the crematorium. Thank you to all who came along to give him a great send off.

The first game of the month away to Beith was postponed after the passing off Iain Muirhead the day before. This game will be played on Saturday the 5th of March.
United were up next against EOS side Musselburgh in the EOS Qualifying Cup. A straight forward win for the home side who dominated from start to finish. Ryan Stevenson grabbed the opener late in the first half with a cool finish. The second half proceeded in the same manner as the first and quality finishes from Matty Flynn and a second from Stevenson after great work by Gregor Nicol completed the scoring. POTM Ryan Stevenson.
A sore result followed next as we lost at home to Berwick. The BU'S started the game well but the visitors scored after the half hour slightly against the run of play. What followed was a defensive calamity and we lost two really poor goals quickly afterwards. Berwick made it four in the second half before Ryan Stevenson netted in the dying embers of the match. POTM Michael Gemmell.
We next travelled to champions elect Bonnyrigg Rose on League business. A good competitive game for 70 minutes until the award of three penalties for the home side. The first was brilliantly saved by Andy Murphy, the other two converted with a goal from a corner in between. We lacked a little cutting edge but looked solid up until the last 20 minutes. POTM Michael Gemmell.
We finished the month with another away League match against Caledonian Braves which ended 1-1. An incredibly quick opening goal from Ryan Stevenson gave United the lead however the Braves were good for long spells of the first half and it took an on-form Andy Murphy to keep them at bay. Braves levelled near the start of the second half and despite both teams going hard at it there were to be no more goals. POTM Andy Murphy.
INS/OUTS
Bo'ness signed David Cross from Sauchie on a month loan. Forward Jack Smith signed on until the end of the season from Drumchapel.

OTHER NEWS
The rearranged Beith Juniors South Challenge Cup tie is scheduled for the 5th of March with the winners earning a home tie against Cumbernauld or Petershill.
We have also been drawn against University of Stirling in the last 8 of the East of Scotland Qualifying Cup. The winners will travel to either Linlithgow or Hill of Beath in the semi final.
Ryan Stevenson made his 100th Bo'ness appearance when he took to the field against Edinburgh University. Club captain Michael Gemmell reached 200 appearances when he faced Berwick. Congratulations to both on their fine achievements.
Ryan Stevenson was rewarded for his fine goalscoring form with a place in the Official Catchup Lowland League team of the month for February. Always nice to see our players getting recognition, well played Ryan!
It would appear that Ryan’s goal against Caledonian Braves may at least equal the club record for quickest goal scored at an unofficial time of nine seconds! Perhaps if our opponents that day shared the goal we could get this verified, it may well be a Lowland League record also.
