Ahead of tomorrow's Brian Morgan memorial match against Sauchie Juniors FC we caught up with BU legend Chris Donnelly, who was club captain during Brian's time at the club.

Q: Before we ask about Morgy the player, can we start with Brian Morgan the person? As a fan he seemed to have a strong mentality on the park as well as being a very positive guy off it.

CD: "It’s honestly hard to put into words how good a guy Morgy was. He was always in a good mood and was always up for laugh and carry on, he had time for everone and that's why he was so well thought of! A big part of the reason I think on a personal level I liked Morgy and got on so well with him was because we both knew how enjoy ourselves on a night out as I’m sure you’ve heard! He was always keen to keep the night going and that was right up my street. Was always guaranteed a bit of craic and good night out with Morgy at the helm."

Q: What was he like as a player and teammate?

CD: "I think when Morgy actually signed with us it was kind of like everyone knew him anyway as we had all played against him that many times over the years! We knew what type of player we were getting on the park as he was a quality player, but I think the best thing that can be said about him is that never even came up when the tragedy happened, it was the loss of a friend and an absolute gent of a guy. For him to leave that impact on a squad of boys after only a couple of years at Bo’ness was mental, you would have thought he had been there 10+ like he was at Sauchie!"

To finish off Chris told us his overriding memory of Morgy.

CD: "As I mentioned earlier it’s hard to best describe him as a player or person. He was a fantastic footballer who had a bit of everything, he didn’t mind a scrap and getting tore in, he obviously had a goal in him, great ability and brilliant delivery as well but the person part is the most important. Speak to anyone of the boys he played with and they’ll all the say the same, an absolute pleasure to have played with and against and the best thing was getting to know him on a personal level. He was a diamond of a boy and he is sadly missed everyday. He is still a topic in our WhatsApp group that we still have with all they boys."
