With a seven game winning streak that started at Newtongrange Bo’ness United want to continue their good run as the Star visit Newtown Park for the return league match. Since Bo’ness won easily at New Victoria Park in an Alex Jack Cup in early August Newtongrange had seen improvement as evidenced in the BUs narrow league win there a few weeks ago. Newtongrange went on to win seven points from a possible nine although were heavily defeated at Broxburn Athletic on Wednesday night.

In the Alex Jack tie Bo’ness scored five with a Fraser Keast double, strikes from Mark McKenzie and Devon Jacobs and a Brian Morgan spot kick. Star’s only goal was a Kayne Paterson penalty, his team already four behind at that point. As mentioned the league game proved a tighter affair with Sean Jamieson putting Star ahead, Brian Morgan equalising from the spot before Kayne Paterson edged the home side ahead before the break, again from twelve yard mark. In the second half Brian Morgan got Bo’ness all square once more and with eight minutes remaining the same player completed his hat trick getting the winner for Bo’ness.

Newtongrange last visit to Newtown Park was an East Region Junior league match just over nineteen months ago resulting in a win for the BUs courtesy of the only goal of the game, an early strike from Marty Wright.

Last weekend Bo’ness won at home against Hill of Beath Hawthorn, Brian Ritchie scoring his first goal in a blue shirt. The BUs might have scored more but for some great saves by Haws keeper James Donaldson, including a penalty kick from Brian Morgan, but it was a good performance from Bo’ness against a stuffy Hill of Beath side. Bo’ness have it all to do again this weekend and Newtongrange come to Bo’ness with a point to prove. They want to make amends for the two defeats against Bo’ness this season and relish the idea of spoiling the BU unbeaten record. More than that they need the points to move them away from the bottom section of the table

Obviously Bo’ness have other ideas and will work hard to keep themselves at the top of the pile. The BU Faithful know the players are determined to keep the other teams at bay and the vocal support of the home fans can help them in that quest
