Now firmly back at Newtown Park the BU have enjoyed 2 wins out of 2 at home in the league with a win over Tranent last Saturday and against Musselburgh midweek under the lights. Both time’s it was high drama as a late Tranent equaliser was cancelled out with an injury time winner and a very late Stuart Hunter header against Musselburgh sealed a come back from 3-2 down with 10 men after the dismissal of Brian Morgan to win 4-3. I’m sure it hasn’t been an easy watch for the fans and the bench as admittedly by some of the player we haven’t played as well as we can but it’s still points secured and the BU go to Dunbar today sitting top of the Premier League. The confidence grit and determination of everyone is there for all to see and hopefully that continues today and the win to keep us at the top against what will be very difficult opposition can be achieved.
Finally before we get into the match an apology is due to BU defender Stuart Hunter. Big Hunts should have been credited with 2 goals midweek not just the winner in added time of the match so apologies big man.

Into today’s game then and it was the visitors with an early chance but a scuffed shot was easy for the home keeper. The BU got forward again and the Dunbar keeper took no prisoners in taking out Stuart Hunter in what would have been a foul had it been on the keeper but the referee amazingly waved play on. It was a decent start for the visitors as Nimmo tried to play a ball forward down the right before once again the home side was into a hard tackle with studs showing this time on the half way line. With the BU controlling the possession so far forward they came again and 17 mins in got a corner as the home side had a defender put his body on the line to defend and ended up flat out on the terracing behind the goal. With the player receive treatment off the pitch the referee continued the game and as the ball was swung in the home keeper had a mishap and Ross Campbell was there to head the ball into the net. Dunbar 0 - 1 BU. From the restart a bit of a mix up at the other end almost gifted the home side back into the game but it was finally cleared up. The home side tried to keep the pressure on but the BU soaked it up to remain in the lead. A chance for 2-0 to the visitors came when Keast could and probably should have had a shot but he turned it down to play the ball back. This was followed by Donnelly getting into the box and ball bounced nicely for him to hit on the half volley, unfortunately the shot went just over the home keepers cross bar. Stevenson put a ball in the box from a free kick that Hunter tried to get on the end of but it was just too high. In What was a good half so far for the BU they kept the pressure on the home side as Donnelly got on the end of ball down the left and crossed it only for the keeper to get there just before Keast. Grant then down well with a pass to Keast and this time he did shoot forcing a good save from the Dunbar keeper sending the ball for a corner. Grant swung in the corner and as it fell to Snowdon at the back post he couldn’t get a shot away but managed to get it through to Donnelly who’s shot went just wide of the far post. Another free kick for the visitors on the edge of the box saw the referee produce a yellow card finally to a Dunbar player. Stevenson took the free kick but the keeper managed to clutch the ball. The home side then broke forward and a mix up almost cost the BU, followed by Ryan Stevenson very easy best allowing a clear shot at Murphy which the keeper saved well. Forward again came the BU and got another free kick this time it came to nothing from around 35 yards out. Murphy done well for the visitors as the home side broke forward before approaching half time it could have been 2-0 BU. A sliced clearance from a home player saw him hit his own cross bar with the keeper beaten.

Half time Dunbar 0 - 1 BU.

Into the 2nd half and a change for BU gaffer Max Christie saw Keast replaced by Mooney. The substitute then found himself through on goal and hit a good shot that was well saved by the home keeper. The home side then got forward and Hunter saw a yellow card for a foul by the referee. From around 30 yards the ball was hit directly towards goal but Murphy made a good save sending the ball for a corner. The corner came in and it was too far for anyone and the ball went out of play for a goal kick. The ball went forward and as it went into the box claims for handball went up, the referee agreed and pointed to the penalty spot. With no Morgan I was thinking Snowdon but Ryan Stevenson stepped up and he took a brilliant penalty sending the home keeper the wrong way slotting the ball low into the corner of the net. Dunbar 0 - 2 BU. Ross Campbell saw a yellow from the referee as the home side came forward with now 18 minutes remaining. Several minutes later and Stevenson saw yellow for a foul out wide on the right. The ball was swung in too far and went out for a goal kick on the far side. The home side came forward again and Stevenson was easy beat just outside the box only for Murphy to procure a great save to keep the score as it was. The ball went for a corner and it was swung in then directed towards goal leaving the keeper no chance as the net bulged to make it Dunbar 1 - 2 BU. A chance to seal the win for the visitors came with 6 minutes to go as Donnelly latched onto a through ball leaving him 1 on 1 with the home keeper but his shot stung his gloves as the ball was well saved. Forward came the visitors as the rain started to come down and Momet had a chance to shoot first time but he took a touch that was too heavily causing the ball to roll away and the chance was gone. The home side got forward again with minutes remaining and as the ball went out of play the visitors claimed the throw in. It was given the way of the home side however but it came to nothing.
On a week of milestones for the BU with keeper Andy Murphy celebrating his 100th appearance and Ryan Stevenson his 50th appearance along with Ross Campbell today celebrating his 200th appearance. Add to that another win today meaning Max Christie is unbeaten in any league games since taking over in January (thanks to Davie Wevling for that ).

Full time Dunbar 1 - 2 BU.
