A quick turn around after the extra time win on Saturday against Tynecastle sees the BU face one junior rivals Newtongrange Star who also switched to the EOS at the same time in this last 16 tie with a trip to Tranent awaiting the winners in the quarter finals. The BU travel to Newtongrange high in confidence as Gaffer Max Christie and his side are yet to be beaten since he took over with his new coaching staff.
Also in other good news for the club Bo'ness United are pleased to confirm that Chris Donnelly, Craig Comrie, Devon Jacobs and Michael Gemmell have put pen to paper on contracts for next season.

On to the game this evening and a decent night for football dry and calm although a bit nippy. The home side got the game underway and in the early minutes both teams tried to keep possession and assert themselves on the game. 9 minutes in and the costing keeper had a stop to make but it was routine with the ball straight at him. Murphy distributed the ball quickly and it gave the visitors a chance to counter, the chance was taken to full advantage as Donnelly picked up the ball and cut inside, from outside the box he stuck towards goal and as a deflection was heard the ball looked over the home keeper and into the back of the net. A great strike to make it Star 0 - 1 BU. As the home side kicked off again it was the visitors now brimming in confidence and looking the better side for this part of the match. A fantastic through ball into the box almost created another goal but a star defender somehow got to the mall and blocked it sending it away for a corner. The visitors kept pressuring however and on 22 minutes for the rewards this time Prentice with a strike from the edge of the box. The home keeper got a hand to it and was criticised from home fans around as he failed to keep the ball out the net and it was a 2-0 lead for the visitors. Donnelly then done well down the left and win a free kick and a great ball was swung into the next with only good defending stopping a shot on goal. The home side had a shot on goal just on the half hour mark as a free kick was hit directly at Murphy who saved easily. 2 minutes later and worrying times for BI Gaffer Christie and the players and fans as Gemmil went down injured. Comrie was prepared to come on but at 1st as Gemmil got back to his feet it looked like he could be ok. Just minutes later however off came Gemmil and I’m speaking to him in the passing he told me he had injured his Knee. Comrie replaced him with now 11 minutes to go to half time. The home side then had chances to get back in the game creating a couple of corners the 2nd of which saw a foul in the box where the referee pointed to the spot in what was a silly penalty to give away. The penalty was scored and with 7 minutes of the half remaining the score was now Star 1 - 2 BU. With the home side now having arguably as much of the game as the visitors enjoyed early on McKenzie then done well with the ball at his feet but the end shot came to nothing. Forward came the go side again and a good cross had Murphy scrambling across his goal but Campbell was there to head the ball clear. The visitors then broke forward and as the ball was played into the box it looked like an obvious pass back from a Star defender to his keeper. Arguments from players and benches ensued while the referee tried to sort things out and eventually came to the correct decision and gave a free kick for the pass back. As the teams set up for the free kick a lot of shouting came from the home bench prompting the referee to go over and have a word before eventually several minutes later the game was ready to get back underway with the free kick inside the box. The ball was touched back to Morgan who blasted it goal wards only for it to be deflected wide and cleared. With no more action other than a free kick out wide for the visitors the 1st half ended Star 1 - 2 BU.

Into the 2nd half and the visitors got us underway with the light now illuminating the pitch and darkness all around. It took 10 minutes for the half to get going but when it did it was the home side on the front foot with a great shot from outside the box giving Murphy in the BU goal something to do and he responded with a fantastic save. Moments later the home side came close again this time Campbell was the saviour clearing the ball off the line. 22 minutes into the half and the home side were right back in the game a through ball beat the visiting defence and the ball was calmly slotted last Murphy in the BU goal for 2-2. Minutes later Murphy again done well making another save this time low to his right. BU Gaffer Max Christie made his 2nd change of the match as McKenzie was replaced by Marty Wright. Murphy made another good save as Jacobs played the ball out and Comrie was robbed in midfield the home side broke quickly and had a shot that Murphy blocked then got down quickly to gather. Finally with 20 minutes to go a bit of relief for the BU as they got forward and got a corner. The delivery was poor however and it came to nothing. The 3rd and final chance for Max Christie came as Nicky Prentice came off for Fraser Keast. The home side then had another delivery into the box but Ross Campbell dealt with it well and cleared any danger. The visitors had a chance to get the ball in the box with a free kick but a poor delivery meant it came to nothing. Forward came the home side again as Comrie lost the ball in the midfield but the BU defence bailed him out and cleared well. Back to the other end now and a great save from the Star keeper saw the ball go for a corner. A good delivery this time saw a shot head towards goal only for it to be defended well and sent for another corner. Another great delivery came across the box but no one could get a touch on it to send it on target and the ball was cleared. Good play from Keast across the midfield set the BU on the attack again but the shot from the edge of the box was high and wide. The home side were soon coming forward again and Murphy in goal again got down well to make a save. Now 3 minutes to go and corner from the BU was swung in with another excellent delivery only for the end shot to go over the bar. Forward now came the home side and yet again Ross Campbell was there to head the ball clear and out for a corner. As the ball was swung in the home side shouted for hand ball but the claims were waved away as the BU cleared the ball from the box. Another chance for the home side as the ball was fixed over the box and again Ross Campbell cleared well. As the he side then tried to cross Jacobs got a good block in and sent the ball for yet another home side corner. Another good deliverer this time had a shot on goal but it was wide of the post. A foul right on the 90 minutes gave the home side a free kick on the edge of the box, in it came and the shout from Murphy of keeper came as he punched the ball clear. It was soon to come back in but again Murphy was there and caught the ball cleanly. Now deep into injury time and with the home side on top a final chance for them with a free kick on the edge of the box. It was a direct hit but well over the bar and the referee blew for full time. Star 2 - 2 BU

Into another extra then shift for the BU this week as the home side got us underway and it was the visitors had the early chance with home keeper saving well from Marty Wright. Soon after Wright had another chance that again the home keeper saved. A good cross followed but the home keeper clutched the ball well and score remained at 2-2. With the visitors having the best of this period of extra time there was a good ball into the box that the home keeper saved well followed by a shot that went wide of the left hand post. At the end of the 1st half of extra time the score remained at 2-2.
Into the 2nd half and the extra time option of the the 4th sub was taken by Max Christie as McDonald replaced Donnelly. Soon the 1st chance came and it was for the visitors as a free kick was awarded on the edge of the box, a poor free kick resulted in an easy clearance for the home side. Another chance then came and went for the BU as a shot was again saved well by the home keeper. The home side then got forward and Campbell done well to clear shortly followed by another good clearance. The ball then made it to the box for the home side and as claims for a penalty went up when no penalty was due the referee correctly waved away the claims. A free kick was swung in from the right by the home side but Murphy shouted for it and punched well clear of danger. A free kick from the half way like for the visitors made its way towards the box but Will Snowden was there to head the ball well clear as the game now went minutes from penalty kicks. Murphy then went rushing out his box to gather a loose ball played forward but his kick landed on a star players fool, it was struck back towards goal but went high and wide. A golden opportunity for the winner with the last kick of the ball had the visitors wondering how did he miss as a great ball into the box found Morgan only yards out but somehow he missed the target.
That was to be the final chance and final kick as the referee blew his whistle and at 2-2 the tie will now be decided on penalties.
Into the penalties then and Star were up 1st and scored. Wright stepped up for the BU and put the ball over the bar. Star made it 2-0 before Comrie scored to make it 2-1. Another star goal made it 3-1 but Stevenson was there to make it 3-2. It then went 4-2 Star as they scored again followed by Smowdon scoring to make it 4-3. With the home side now stepping up to score the winner Murphy made a fantastic save to keep the score at 4-3. Jacobs then scored to make it 4-4 and send us to sudden death.
Again Star were 1st up and scored to make it 5-4. McDonald levelled it at 5-5 before Star took the lead again at 6-5. Morgan was calm and composed to make it 6-6 and the same for Star as they made it 7-6. Keast confidently stepped up and made it 7-7. Murphy was then end hero again as he saved his 2nd penalty leaving the score at 7-7 with Ross Campbell stepping up to score the winning penalty. Full time after extra time and penalties sees the BU progress to a quarter final tie away to Tranent.
