Stalemate at Beechwood

Match report kindly supplied by BRYAN COPELAND.

Even though results in the league have been good for the BU with the heavy defeat to Bonnyrigg the only real bad result to speak of. Things are starting to get tight in around the top positions with teams looking to be in the Top 5 at the end of the season to proceed to a better league next year this game today takes on massive importance for both sides to take 3 points.
Into the game and it began in good conditions considering the high winds and heavy rain there has been it was calm and dry. The tackles flying in early on weren’t calm however as both teams tried to get a grip on the game. It was the home side with the best early chance as an effort came back off the post and the follow up saved by the visiting keeper. The home side we’re enjoying a fair bit of possession so far and won a corner followed by another which was defended by the visitors. It took until the 24th minute for the visitors to show any threat as Wright done well on the edge of the box and laid the ball off for a good cross to come in. The ball was cleared but another good ball was soon sent in that the home keeper had to deal with. There was very little goal mouth action from either side the only other chances came when the visitors played a ball across the back line and it was stolen and a shot headed towards Murphy but it was an easy save and for the visitors Donnelly tried a run down the far left but was stopped with a decent tackle before he got near the home sides box. Forward came the visitors again this time a good ball played in wright down the left the cross was blocked and cleared by the home side. As half ti approached there wasn’t a lot to really report other than the home side slightly shading the possession and the closest to goal was when they hit the post. From the visitors point of view there wasn’t much to report so far. With a minute remains of the half the visitors got a free kick on the edge of the box resulting in a day joe player eventually being correctly booked. The ball into the go from the free kick cams to nothing and it was quickly taken up the field by the home side who forced a decent save from Murphy in the BU goal. The visitors got forwards again and won a corner. Morgan swung it in and Donelly met it with a header that ended up going over the bar.
With no more action to come in a fairly quiet 1st half overall it ended
Sauchie 0 - 0 BU.
Into the 2nd half and other than the home side having an effort off the under side of Murphy’s crossbar there was very little to report in the early stages. Murphy in the BU goal then made a treat save to stop a shot from the home side followed by the rebound being deflected towards goal and the ball being cleared off the line by Will Snowdon. BU manger Kegs then made a double change with Hunter and Tiwi going off replaced by McMullan and Andy Shirra. A corner was soon swung in from the home side which was cleared well and sent the visitors on the counter attack. A good ball into the box was cleared by the home keeper and the BU were some defending another corner this time the referee helped by blowing for a foul. With 17 minutes remaining the home side had a shot on goal as a ball was swung into the box but it was blasted high over the bar. The visitors won a corner and it was a great delivery with the defence making a good block as the ball headed towards goal. As the home side then broke forward a terrible tackle inside the box stopped play for a free kick to the BU. As the game got feisty again another bad challenge from the home side on the far side resulted in a straight red card for a home player. A great ball into the box for the visitors saw Wright get his head on the ball and as the net rippled it was through to be a goal only to find the ball had hit the side netting. Forward came the home side and a ball into the box was shouted for bu Murphy in the BU goal but he ended up scrambling over jack box and missing it completely. The home side then got a free kick on the left and as the linesman was getting pelters for it not being a foul his reply was I told the referee it wasn’t a foul but I can’t over rule him as he allowed to to stand anyway. Back into the game however and the free kick was cleared for a corner that was thankfully well defended and came to nothing. A tackle from Morgan on the half way line saw the referee going to his pocket am producing a red card making it 10 v 10 as the game went into stoppage time. The visitors had a final chance as Marty Wright had a header that narrowly missed the target but the match ended with the home side coming forward and playing a decent ball into the box. Overall the home side would probably feel they should have taken all 3 points but the match ended a draw.
