Match Preview 2018 2019

Dalkeith Thistle, Central Taxis East of Scotland League Conference B, Newtown Park, Saturday 16 March 2019

Bo’ness United hope to continue their winning form as Dalkeith Thistle visit for the last competitive game to be played on grass at Newtown Park. This match was originally scheduled for mid December but fell foul of the freezing weather at the time.

Last Saturday Craig Comrie chose the ideal time to score his first goal for Bo’ness with the last kick of the game against his former team Sauchie Juniors, a strike that gave Bo’ness all the points to keep them in second place in the Conference B Table. A win this weekend would see the BUs stay there and represent another step towards a top five place that will see them play in the top division of next season’s East of Scotland League. However things are still tight in the top half of the conference and Bo’ness can’t afford too many slip ups.

Dalkeith are still in with a chance of a promoted place although are currently outside the top five with only four games left to achieve their goal. They recently lost their management team of Darren Smith and Kenny Rafferty to Newtongrange Star and Kevin Twaddle and Andy Donlevy have come in until the end of the season. Dalkeith suffered an unexpected defeat at Burntisland Shipyard last weekend and have drawn their last three games before that. Three points from a possible twelve is something the new management team want to improve on.

Bo’ness have played Dalkeith on a regular basis in recent times, the last outing at Kings Park just over two years ago when the BUs won an East of Scotland Cup tie, but only after a penalty kick shoot out. Colin Strickland had given Bo’ness an early lead but goals from Tyron McLean and Darren Devlin saw the home side ahead at half time. Fraser Keast equalised before the end and Ross Philp’s final penalty conversion saw Bo’ness into the next round. For the last league match at Newtown Park between the sides you have to go all the way back to September 1990 when Bo’ness won by the odd goal in five thanks to a Jimmy Burns hat trick. The BUs visit Kings Park for the return fixture on the last Saturday in April.

Bo’ness are currently playing well and hopefully more of the BU fans will want to head along for this important, and in its own way, historic match. Three points are required and a good turnout can give the players the added incentive to get that win.
