Match Preview 2018 2019

Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale, Central Taxis East of Scotland League Conference B, Saughton Sports Complex, Saturday 30 March 2019

Bo’ness United make the short trip to the Capital for a second week this time to play Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale in a significant League match. Bo’ness look to take another step towards top league status for next season while Lothian find themselves outside the qualifying position and need the points to give them a chance of progressing.

The sides met for the first league game of the season at Newtown Park where the BUs ran out convincing winners scoring five goals without reply. Ross Campbell bagged three for himself while Marty Wright and Fraser Keast scored the other two. This game is likely to be a tighter affair with so much at stake although the teams go into the game with contrasting fortunes from the last few weeks.

Lothian exited the League Cup, King Cup and South Challenge Cup during this month and along with a blank week and a postponement have not played a league game for over a month. In February they drew at both Dalkeith and Haddington and it was the last Saturday in January they got their last league win with a home victory against Crossgates. Bo’ness on the other hand are on a six game winning streak the last being the King Cup victory at Heriot-Watt University. Early goals from Fraser Keast and Chris Donnelly were countered by a Calvin Muttitt strike just before the break. The BUs dominated the second half and were eventually rewarded with a Brian Morgan goal and a second of the day from Chris Donnelly.

Bo’ness are closing in on their aim for promotion but are a few wins away from clinching their place with all difficult games ahead. April will be a significant month as the BUs complete their League schedule with an added difficulty of no games at Newtown Park. The start of the renovations mean the ‘home’ games will be played at Camelon Junior’s Carmuirs Park and Crossgates, Tranent and Dalkeith are all scheduled to visit. On top of that here is a trip to Bonnyrigg with the return game at Dalkeith to finish the programme.

A good start to this series of matches will be a victory at Saughton and once more a good support from the BU Faithful is most welcome.
