Dalkeith Thistle, Central Taxis East of Scotland League Conference B, Newtown Park, Saturday 15 December 2018

After three games on the road the Boys are back in town, the BUs ready to face Dalkeith Thistle in the League. Bo’ness are just behind Dalkeith in the League table and a home win could see Bo’ness finish the year as high as third place. The visitors will have other ideas that third spot also within their reach.

Bo’ness have played Dalkeith on a regular basis in recent times, the last outing at Kings Park just over two years ago when the BUs won an East of Scotland Cup tie, but only after a penalty kick shoot out. Colin Strickland had given Bo’ness an early lead but goals from Tyron McLean and Darren Devlin saw the home side ahead at half time. Fraser Keast equalised before the end and Ross Philp’s final penalty conversion saw Bo’ness into the next round. For the last league match at Newtown Park between the sides you have to all the way back to September 1990 when Bo’ness won by the odd goal in five thanks to a Jimmy Burns hat trick.

Back to the present and the same score would suit Bo’ness fine. They had hoped for better than a draw at Sauchie last weekend but as the game turned out it was a point gained. Sauchie missed several good chances to get a goal and the BUs were unusually off the pace creating very little while experiencing a number of close things at the back. Hopefully they will be better this week but they will have to do it without Brian Morgan who was sent off in the final minutes and he will join Ross Campbell on the suspended list.

Dalkeith beat Burntisland Shipyard last week and have won eight points from their last four games and continue their aspiration for a place in the top division next season. Bo’ness obviously share these ambitions but know this is the type of game they need to win to fulfil their wishes.

Being so close to Christmas some may be compelled to hit the shops but hopefully the thought of a rare home game will be enough to lure a good amount of the BU Faithful to Newtown Park to get behind the team. Watching the footie is decidedly a better way to spend your Saturday afternoon and three points would be a nice way to finish the year.
