Many of the BU Faithful will have visited Burntisland in the past whether on a day trip or holiday but this will be the first time visiting the Fife seaside town for a football match.

Burntisland Shipyard have been around since the early part of the twentieth century playing mostly in Fife until they joined the East of Scotland League in 2011. They finished eighth from thirteen in last season’s League although have yet to record a win this campaign with no points from three starts. In saying that their last league defeat a few weeks ago was a narrow loss at Dundonald going down by the odd goal in five. The season started poorly for Burntisland losing all their League Cup section games but they have had some success in cup competitions. They defeated Ormiston in the Football Nation Cup and Hawick in the South Challenge Cup. They also won two of their Scottish Cup ties at Golspie and Girvan before going out last week at home to Lowland League side Cumbernauld Colts.

The close result at Dundonald shows that Burntisland are no pushovers although Bo’ness believe they are more than capable of getting a result. The players certainly showed great attitude last weekend at Tranent in the Alex Jack Cup where, with three minutes remaining, the home side thought they had scored the winner but the BUs had other ideas. Chris Donnelly had already brought Bo’ness back into the game after Tranent had gone ahead and in the last minute of the ninety Brian Morgan equalised before Donnelly popped up in time added on to get the winner. A great comeback against a good Tranent team. Bo’ness will now visit Haddington in the semi final of the tournament although that game will put aside as Bo’ness focus on winning the points to keep then near the top of the table.

As usual there will be a large contingent of the BU Faithful heading to Burntisland but just remember, if you’re coming via Aberdour don’t be tempted to turn right for the beach. No, before that roundabout you’ll want to turn left at the Jubilee Tavern onto Church Street where you will see Recreation Park to your right.
