Tynecastle, Central Taxis East of Scotland League Conference B, Newtown Park, Saturday 17 November 2018

Bo’ness United want to get back to winning ways in their quest to ensure a place in the top flight of the East of Scotland League. A draw with Haddington Athletic and defeat to Bonnyrigg Rose, both at home, has seen the BUs drop down the table meaning three points against first time visitors to Newtown Park, Tynecastle are vital.

Previously a juvenile side Tynecastle merged with Tollcross United and played at Fernieside Recreation Ground and Saughton Enclosure before the move to their current home, Meggetland where they share with rugby side Boroughmuir. Indeed this was originally scheduled as an away fixture for the BUs but switched due to a clash with the rugby.

The Edinburgh side have experienced a torrid week with a heavy defeat at home to Haddington losing nine goals with only one in their favour. They also lost the services of their manager Chris Scott who resigned a few days later. Tynecastle also lost at Crossgates and versus Dalkeith in the previous weeks although achieved a credible win at Burntisland before that. They are only two paces below Bo’ness in the table but have played three more games and have four points less. Their other two victories have been against Eyemouth both home and away. Tynecastle also drew at Lothian Thistle.

Bo’ness enjoyed a hard fought single goal win at Moorside Park against Dundonald Bluebell in last week’s Football Nations Cup Tie. Nicky Prentice scored the early goal but despite enjoying the lion’s share of possession and creating numerous chances, including a late penalty miss by Marty Wright, the BUs could not add to their tally keeping the large visiting support on tender hooks right until the final whistle. It was a dominant performance from Bo’ness just missing that killer touch in front of goal.

Homes games seem to be a rarity for Bo’ness United having only played three games at Newtown Park in ten weeks. This situation does not get any better as Bo’ness will be on the road for the next four weeks with only one game scheduled at home before the end of the year. Hopefully this situation can improve but meanwhile Saturday provides an opportunity for the BU fans to get behind the team in familiar surroundings and with any luck a Bo’ness victory to celebrate.
