Football Nation Cup Last 16

Tranent Juniors, Football Nation East of Scotland Qualifying Cup Round 3, Foresters Park, Saturday 01 December 2018

Bo’ness United go to Foresters Park for the second visit of the season this time a Football Nation Cup tie. The last trip just over two months ago was a hard fought Alex Jack Cup game where Bo’ness produced a memorable win. With three minutes remaining, the home side thought they had scored the clincher through James Devlin but the BUs had other ideas. Chris Donnelly had already brought Bo’ness back into the game after Tranent had gone ahead from a superb Shaun Rutherford strike and just on the ninety Brian Morgan equalised before Donnelly popped up in time added on to head the winner. A great comeback against a good Tranent team.

Since then Tranent have continued their positive League form and are just above the BUs in the table having played the same games but with a superior goal difference. They drew at home to Dundonald Bluebell on Saturday as they did at Dalkeith Thistle the week before. Their worst result in recent weeks came when they were heavily defeated against Linlithgow Rose in the South Challenge Cup.

In this tournament Tranent had a convincing result to beat Eyemouth United at Foresters Park in the last round scoring no less than fifteen goals with the loss of two. Bo’ness have got this far in the tournament beating Crossgates Primrose in the first round thanks to a single Fraser Keast goal in extra time. It was also a single goal win in the next round at Dundonald, an early headed goal by Nicky Prentice.

Last week the BUs enjoyed a straightforward win at Eyemouth including a hat trick from Marty Wright and an Allan Mackenzie (pictured) brace. Brian Morgan, Ross Campbell and Devon Jacobs, his first for the BUs, all scored one. Saturday’s game at Tranent will be so much more difficult and although not too many BU fans made the trip to Eyemouth hopefully they can turn up in numbers at Tranent to support the players. A good noisy away support is just the thing to encourage the team onto victory.
