John Spowart Looks Ahead To This Weekends Encounter

Match Preview 2018 2019

Eyemouth United, Central Taxis East of Scotland League Conference B, Warner Park, Saturday 24 November 2018

This should have been Cup Final weekend for Bo’ness United but rather than the chance to beat Camelon Juniors for Alex Jack Cup, expulsion due to an administrative error mean the BUs will instead face the long journey to Eyemouth United in the quest for three points to keep them within reach of the teams above them in East of Scotland League.

Bo’ness make the 144 mile round trip to play the team who are rock bottom of Conference A with zero points and a minus goal difference of fifty five goals after only ten games. This included losing eight goals without reply at home to Crossgates Primrose last weekend. An easy win should be on the cards but as the BUs showed on Saturday nothing can be taken for granted. Tynecastle visited Newtown Park smarting from a heavy defeat versus Haddington Athletic the week before but they scored an early goal and it was only a second half revival that saw Bo’ness score five before conceding again just before the end. The Bo’ness players clearly responded to the half time pep talk and will want to get it right from the start this weekend.

Formed three years after the BUs in 1948 Eyemouth enjoyed their best spell in the fifties winning the East of Scotland League numerous times as well as reaching the quarter final of the Scottish Cup, knocked out at that point by Kilmarnock. They last won the East of Scotland League in 1971. Eyemouth have visited Newtown Park on a couple of occasions for friendly matches one in 1969 finishing two goals apiece the BU strikes scored by Ian Wodecki and a trialist. This will be the first competitive match between the sides.

The Tynecastle win saw Bo’ness move to sixth in the table and victory at Eyemouth combined with results elsewhere could see the BUs move at least one place further up the table. As usual there will be a sizeable number of the BU Faithful in attendance to support the team and the players will want to ensure the long trek is not in vain for all concerned.
